If you could have brightened it a bit it would have brought out the colors - otherwise it really captured the mood.

I really agree with Mike. "Rules" like that should be guidelines at most.
-
Clean composition but you are right the tone needs adjusting.

I think you should have waited for better lighting.

The colors seem a bit muted.

This really captures "static movement." Great work!

Colorful and I like the mood of this.

The greens were lost.

Let's turn to some people that not only understood color but lived it.
Paul Klee - "Color and I are one."
Andre Derain - Use color "like sticks of dynamite."
Vasily Kandinsky - "Color directly influences the soul. Color is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand that plays, touching one key or another purposively, to cause vibrations in the soul."

The boards are distracting

I am trying to get a sense of what you commented on about my photo. I think this is the best of the style that you were talking about - i.e. monotone, water, distant shot etc. Both of our shots have a "vague" quality to them but I still am not sure of what you mean.
-
Looks like we were out on the same day. Clouds and light - wonderful.
-
Isolate your subject and it would improve the shot.
-
An insightful photograph - full of warmth. I would have liked to have seen just a bit more detail in the face though.
-
More clarity would have really changed this wonderful shot. Great just the way it is.
-
I think the bottom darkens out too quickly and the image is lost somewhat.
-
Off center and out of focus
-
I understand the limitations but it would have been nice to have been able to increase the depth of field so that the bricks were in focus. Almost there.

Kind of looks like a snapshot. Maybe if you would have isolated an individual in an interesting pose it would have helped. Otherwise it is merely a look and shoot photo.
