1.
You don't hear about these two often, especially when the 105 2.5 is taken into consideration. How are these wide open and stopped down?

 2.
What lights are you using, how are you triggering them? - let's start with that- no way you keep getting serious underexposure like that unless you have a sync issue. I would not use the pop up to sync (not sure if the pop up flash's TTL metering flashes can be turned off)

I'd then add one light at a time and see what each does

 3.
Later 7/7Es and 7N/7Nes were all made in Thailand (IIRC)
There's a difference in the finish and some claim the later cameras aren't as well put together - but hey they're all cheap
7n models have ETTL II, a different AF sensor, and the backlight

 4.
Okay, late to the party, but I hope this helps
Set the ISO of your film on the camera; let's assume it's ISO100 - take it outside on a bright sunny day- set shutter speed to 1/125- leave lens on A - it should state a F stop of 16 or so - if yes- meter is working
Raise the shutter speed, and your lens will open up (lower F number)
Lower the shutter speed, and your lens will stop down until it hits it's minimum
