Hi Vick
Yes, Kindermann is absolutely tops for camera repair. They've done outstanding work on my R8 bodies and CLA on lenses.
I don't think Kindermann can service the DMR unit itself, but don't hesitate to send the body to them. They are fast, reasonable, and best of all they are nice folks to work with.

My great SL with the last roll of Kodachrome that went through it last week. I've been shooting Kodachrome with this camera for 29 years.
[tried again :)

Mailed my last 10 rolls on the 27 at 11 a.m.; postman said only would guaratee there by 30th if I used Express, which I did. It arrived at Dwayne's at 8:37 a.m. today. 25 bucks to mail it Express, but I had no second chances.

Way to go Daniel ! I've enjoyed the Kodachrome Project and look forward to a copy of the book.

Yep, go for it. Problems should have been fixed by now for any bodies with a problem.
I've used 2 of'em since '03.
The meter cells went out in both of'em in '06, which was also the year I dropped one onto some rocks. It only had exterior damage which was repaired by Kindermann in Canada [the place for Leica repairs IMO]
Otherwise, I still really like'em and just recently hooked one of'em up with a DMR, which I also like.

Have not had chance to rummage thru all my old brochures.
I did look through my Brian Bower book on M cameras, and there are some pics of a Panda M in it. But, there is no mention, that I found, regarding the uniqueness of this camera.

I have a bunch of old brochures too; I'll try to remember to see if there's a Panda in one.

The lack of chrome parts is the only story I've ever heard as well.
I had not heard how long they were out of them before this.
At any rate, I think they look good :)

Me too Ferdi, they are a great resource.

I'm not sure this would work, but: go to NG site and type Leica in on search function, maybe something will turn up.

Only 2 reasons to go with R3 - R7 over the R8/R9: size and weight. I been using R8 bodies for 7 years, love'em.

I don't really know if this would have a bearing or not...but wonder if the self timer lever is not in the position it should be in ?

M7 and MP both are still in production [well, still on Leica's website]

Calendars are excellent, great job by Daniel !

Pair of Leica R8s, a Leicaflex SL, and a Leica Mini 2.

Kindermann Canada is top notch for R8 repairs, call Gerry Smith or Gary Perry.
http://www.kindermann.ca/Service/default.html

Well this sure perked me right up !
Graeme, thanks for sharing this.

Version One is more prone to flare but still a good lens; not as good as Ver. 2 but still good.

-

Very good; thank you for the great photos from Wetzlar especially !

I'd second Michael's picks, as well as the 50 2.0 and 35 2.0 [second version esp.], both Summicron lenses.
Also, the 60 2.8 Macro, the second or third version of the 50 1.4 Summilux, and one I've never used but seen great results from is the 80 1.4 Summilux.
Have fun, all are great lenses in my book.

Is the little silver release 'slider' [on bottom of the grip] stuck ?
It has a bit of tension to it, but once you disengage it the grip should slide off easily.

Dave
Fred Miranda's site, the GetDPI site, and the Leica Users Forum would be good places to check this out.
I've seen pics made with this lens on them in the past; s'posed to be a heckuva lens.

If you don't have a good loupe for your slides, take a 50 mm lens and look at your slides with it.
You'll need to look at the slides by looking thru the rear of the lens.

I can't remember the details but a week and a half is about the longest I've waited for turn-around from Dwaynes. Usually, 5-7 days from Nashville to Dwayne's and back. Been using them for several years now.

Where did you buy your Leica? Was it new or used?
in Leica and Rangefinders

I've purchased from KEH, Kurland, National Camera, Camera West, and a long gone great store that used to be in Nashville.
I've had good luck with all.
