Hi, Alex, I think the color aliasing can be easily dealt with if you shoot RAW ... but I did have seen some pretty bad examples from the M8, I guess it's only because the camera has a pretty lousy JPEG engine? such as this one I found on DC Watch yesterday?

The reason why people aren't making APS-C FOV primers? because they all know it's just an interim solution and the future is still with 35mm full frame or even larger formats.
To make a long story short, all Canon and Sony currently need is a stepper which can expose a larger area of the CCD/CMOS sensor so the number of exposures to cover the 35mm full size area can be reduced ... even from 3 times to 2 time would make a significant difference ... so the failure rate due to misalignment among multiple exposures can be dramatically less.
Imagine at some time when Canon and Sony both have a stepper that can do single exposure to cover a 35mm FF area ... the price of these sensors will be "dirt cheap".
In the long run, Oly, Panasonic and the whole 4/3 idea are surely going to fail ...
-
Why 25mm? ... Canon already has a 24/1.4L even Leica can't do (or at least hasn't done yet). Plus their 10-22 EF-S lens to cover the 1.6x FOV (a 35mm equiv. of 16-35mm) is none slouch either ... give it a shot if you haven't done so already.

Ray, all these Leicasonic lenses are to be built at Panasonic's Kyushu factory ... there was a couple of interviews in Asahi Kamera, Nippon Kamera and perhaps some other Japanese magazines in which the Panasonic engineers elaborated how they designed, built the lens ... one of the very few things about Leica was that they're very specific with the cosmetic designs such as fonts they chose to paint on the lens barrel. It's quite obvious (to me) from these readings that the Japanese engineers are very proud of what they've achieved.
-
Kevin, this lens is made by Panasonic ... and I actually read from a Japanese magazine it's designed by Panasonic too. You would believe that if Panasonic could do it, Canon and Nikon could only do it better. What a shame ... Leica.

Anyone who really got bored wouldn't even click on this thread ... there're folks responding to every single M8 post on the Leica user forum.

Who needs 16x20" prints, Rob? my crystal ball says most M8/M9 users will only enjoy their pictures on 17" LCDs or downsize for some bragging rights on photo.net.

MP, 75 cron and Delta 100.

I'm expecting a lot of digital freaks dumping this camera when they find that they don't like a rangefinder at all. ;)
-
I'm not surprised at all that the price of M film cameras could only go down even further in anticipation of the digital M release in this fall. $850 isn't too bad ... and most M6 auctions closed around 1000 recently, from a buyer's perspective, paying anything beyond that surely isn't a wise move. In the mean time, the source of good used M lenses is drying up.
-
Where can I get an instant discount of 1000 dollars on the M digital rangefnider? was it supposed to be rebadged as a Lumix M?
-
I totally agree with Kevin, Leica (or any manual focus gear) is not good for child photography ...
-
It appears that Adorama eventually removed the Zeiss Ikon camera from their web site after the stock was cleared. ;)
-
I agree with joe, this can all be done by yourself ... there're people selling nice Japanese-made camera repair tool set on ebay for only 50-60 bucks if you don't have one already.
-
The Zeiss Ikon cameras can be had for merely 1000 US equivalent everywhere in Japan ... maybe cheaper if you walk in stores. So even if Zeiss cut all supplies from wholesale dealers, theoratically, anyone could still buy in streets (from retailers) and still make a lot of money in America.
And it'll only be pushed down even further when the digital version surfaces later this year.
-
Who said an authorized dealer can't offer a better price? LOL
-
Sorry I forgot, besides the mirror box, the imager is apparently the same as the one in the E-330.
-
No, the L1 is not a rebadged E330, it basically only uses the mirror box co-developed with Olympus, almost everything else is different. According to Panasonic's engineers, they already wanted to make a SLR when they worked on the LC1.
-
The L1 is supposed to be rebadged as the "Digilux 3" but I suspect Leica will use that name again ... Panasonic's engineers indicated very clearly in a Asahi Kamera interview that the L1 is an evolution from the LC1, and that's it. ;)
-
The M6 TTL 0.72 is quite stable, .85 is going down relatively faster ... not sure about .58 ... M7 is all the way down for sure, basically, these serial production cameras have no collection value at all. I can only expect the used price heading further south bound once the digital M hits the streets.
To be honest, if you have more than enough cash ... collect lenses instead of cameras. ;)
-
It's all about gears, many people buy expensive cameras and lenses but never bother to take pictures ... cameras are not necessarily assiciated with photography in many cases. This is especially true on a Leica board ... some folks post here just to let the world know he just spent 5000 dollars.
-
For the record, the 2.8-3.5/14-50 OIS is NOT a Leica lens, there was a lengthy interview with Panasonic engineers in Asahi Kamera and also another on the web site DC Watch ... Panasonic designed the lens, Leica rubber stamped it ... and its 100% made in Japan. I guess that's probably why Matsushita insists on painting their trademark Panasonic on the lens barrel ... which is on the bottom when mounted, and most web reports intentionally to hide that from public viewing or simply aren't aware of that.
From what I read and hear, Leica has absolutely nothing to do in the making of L1. The camera isn't even qualified to be discussed here based on the forum rules. ;)
-
Unless Leica will paint their own copies of the Panasonic lens ... I highly doubt the camera will get a rebadge.
When did you guys see an OEM subcontractor painting their own trademarks on a wanna-be-Leica? ... even the C Lux ... now this crap has all the cheap monikers LUMIX, Mega.O.I.S. Panasonic everywhere on it.
DMR bites the dust.
