gee thanks Bill. Funny thing is I'm living in Germany and get no coverage at all of the ashes. At the moment Im fighting to get tickets to any of the OZ world cup games as they are all only about 2 hours drive from here. So if any one is reading this and wants to give me ticket or sell them at a good price (not the 250 euro e-bay prices) please contact me.
umm also let me know if i have any more typos :)

the shops quoting a re worked 7d not a 5d like everyone said, and 10mpx. just to add fuel to the rumour fire.
-
if they fit in the cokin holder then yes of not then no :)

ooops another typo "telling".....

The guy sounds like he is tellinf the truth
what do you think

I dont think there will be any new lenses that are not D. It just would be a steep backwards. So as a guess there will be consumer lenses and pro-sumer lenses. That being D and D(G) lenses (if they do bring out 20 lenses in one year).

Hi. Ive been using Minolta for about 20 years and are bummed they have dropped out of the market but here are a few facts to help you decide what to do.
KM (Konica Minolta) will be producing the first few ranges of Sony DSLRs
Nikon buy their CCDs from Sony.
Sony owns 30% of Tamron.
Zeiss Lenses from Sony are made buy Tamron.
The last 3 or 4 Minolta lenses were made by Tamron.
Sony wants 25% of the DSLR market in the next few years.
The first Sony DSLR to hit the shelves (soon) will probably be a re-bagged 5D
With a 10pm (same chip as Nikon D200) announced at Photokina latter this year.
You cant take over the camera market without having a pro range.
I also am waiting to see what happens but have a large investment in my Minoltas inc 12 lenses 4 flashes bellows etc etc etc .

Bugger should be cant zoom not can zoom bloody typos. Thats what happens when you type with out thinking and proof reading. I seem to be getting famous in a few forums for my typos. :)
-
If you are just starting out then get a 50mm (1.7 is the cheapest) and use it a lot as it can zoom you will have to think different about how you photograph and your composition.
-
did I miss something?
-
do you have another Minolta camera where you can try it out. to see if its a compatibility problem or the lens itself. (i did not see the 28mm 1.8 on the list of lenses that need a re chipping, on the sigma website)

I asked the bride today why they wanted the raw data, and its because the both are "Photoshop" fans and want to create the final image them selves.
-
I want the experience but I'm not going to do it for free. Some how I need to get the money to pay for all my KIT :). At the moment my guess is 2-300 euro and they can have a copy of the RAW's what they do is their problem ill do my own Photoshop to start building up a portfolio.

will sought something out for you tonight if i get a chance :)

I have been asked to shoot the formals for a wedding. They only want
formally after the wedding of the bride and groom. They have allowed
about 1 and a half hours for the shots after the church. It is about
45 mins drive one way. All they want is the RAW data and do the
Photoshop them selves, I.e. as cheap as they can. They are both
interns in the same firm. They have also organised cousin someone to
hold reflectors and act as a assistant. So no the big question how
much should I charge them ?
-
I have one I haven't used since i got my 7D as it wont work with it :(. guess i could sell it.
-
you will need to turn the lens release off in the menus and work in stop down mode. There are plenty of adaptors for non electronic lenses e.g. pentacon 6 m42 etc they all work the same and can be bought cheep on e-bay.
-
guess it will be a line up of existing minolta glass and tamron stuff

try the photo.net minolta forum
http://www.photo.net/bboard/forum?topic_id=1781
or
www.dynaxdigital.com
-
there are several user who use both. Nikon and Minolta on the www.dynaxdigital.com forum I photographed a wedding with both a 7D and a D70s (my 7D and a friends D70) as im use to the 7Ds menu system and knobs I found it 1000000 times better to use.
-
The sigma will only work on the 7D if it has the newest firmware. So get the shop to order one instead of getting one of the shelf. also a nice little flash is the Sunpac PZ40X. All XI and I flashes will work with your 7, and the XI's have wire less.
-
There is an adaptor to use ISO hot shoe stuff on Minolta cameras. But it is designed for older Minolta flashes not Canon. If it works it will only work in manual mode (triggered by the x contact). Ive used it to fire studio strobes without problem in the past but I dont know of anyone using Canon flashes.
-
The lens should be no problem but its not really a portrait lens, (if I remember correctly the 24 2.8 is one of the best wide angle lenses made by Minolta). Forget the flash it will only fire on full power on the 7D, your only chance it to use the flash manually and from memory the 3200i has no manual controls.

I got lucky and scored some Novoflex bellows for MAF cheap a few years back. If you get a change find some jump on them.
Sony reorganizing using outside help - is Minolta Alpha sacred or up for the choppoing block?
