  1. The lesson learned is be careful who you hire. Provide them with the memory card so it is your property and write a contract. Only pay 25% up front and the rest when you have your memory card back.
  2. Have you seen the price of 70mm film? Last time I looked it was something like $129 per roll with a 5 roll minimum and a 4 week wait to get it. Stick with 120 or 220 if you can find it.

  6. I spoke to a rep/manager at Quantum and found out the info I was looking for. I wanted to pass along a quote of his that I really appreciated: "Friends don't let friends shoot TTL" thanks for your comments.
  7. Try everything mentioned including a new CF card. Fee is usually related to the aperture ring or contacts. If you can't resolve the problem yourself don't sink money into that body. The newer Nikon DSLR's blow it away.
  8. Hate to say this but 645 and 6x7 can't challenge the 36 or 45mp dslrs anymore. But I still shoot MF anyway because it has a unique look and it makes you use your brain composing and taking your shot. If your happy with 12x18" prints or smaller the new fine grain films will still produce good results in 35mm. 35mm has the advantage of being more portable than MF, but MF will do a better job (and often require a tripod for lenses longer than 135mm). Shoot what ever you enjoy.
  9. I was using 3 Metz strobes with a Quantum wireless unit with a D750 (soon to be D850) on a Stroboframe bracket. I've found that Nikon strobes are not powerful enough for my needs. The Quantum T5D-R will suit my needs but it's offered in so many ways, kits etc. I want to find the best package. I'm hoping that they will be at the NYC photo expo and I can check everything out first hand and speak to a rep. But..if anyone is using Quantum gear for weddings please give me your input. I'm expecting to pay about $2k. thanks, Rick
  10. ive been shooting weddings for 30 years and it's time to upgrade my strobes. I am interested in the Quantum system but need a few recommendations. I'm shooting with Nikon DSLR's Want off camera strobe , + 2-3 extra heads Wireless The ability to use a diffuser or bare bulb They have so many models I'm confused, please give me a starting point and don't suggest other brands. Other bells and whistles not important Thanks
  11. I love my old Spotmatics...but if I could only have one body and lens it would be a Nikon D850 with 35mm f1.8 G ED.
  12. IMO I think the main reason why the Df did not sell that well is it's sensor size. I didn't mind that the Df didn't have video but would of liked more than 16mp. Had it been at least 24mp I would of considered it. It's also not as small or light in person. A DSLR (FX) the size of a F3 would be perfect for travel for me. just my two cents
  13. Thanks for doing the reasearch for me, so it appears my D700 is heavier than the D850, I can live with that. I'm not considering it an upgrade, unless I'm working on a project that might require a mural sized print my D750 will be my main camera. I don't understand the fuss about shutter noise, I'm sure in some situations it might matter but the differences are trivial. You guys are probably too young and never shot a wedding with a Bronica S2A, that shutter and wind was loud enough to stop the ceremony and wake the dead. But in the end noise or not I got my images. I'll be buying a D850 regardless of any complaints and like I've done in the past say it will be my last camera. Until the next one comes along. I was hoping Nikon was putting this sensor in a Df2. Regards, Rick
  14. I love mine, even more than my F2 & F3. It's very reliable, perfect ergonomics and bright finder. I like the digital display better than the FE2 and other bodies analog. I bought mine in the 1990's as back up for my F3 and it turned out that my F3 became the backup body. The 1/250 flash synch makes it great for daylight fill flash. Only quirk, when your shopping buy one with the grip still attached many people take them off and loose them.
  15. How about weight and bulk? I love how my D750 is lighter and smaller than my D700 which is why I passed up the 810. But the 850's specs are exceptional and very tempting. How does it feel in your hands compared to the older bodies? I shoot primes, mainly the 20/1.8,35/1.8,50/1.4G, 85/1.8, and 180/2.8, I don't like lugging around heavy zooms (not to mention getting better images). If it were the same weight and size of the 750 I would have one already. Opinions?
  16. It must of thought the word shift was a curse. LOL Hope you figured out my meaning.
  17. It could be many things. I assume that the camera is not in your possession at the moment. It comes down to the process of elimination. In the multiple exposure mode the body should fire without the finder, back, or lens mounted using the battery at all speeds except Auto. If that works try the lens, add the back, etc. until it fails. Clean all contacts. Does the shutter fire with the prism on in the manual mode? If I were that buyer I'd send it back to you and take it from there. Good luck.
  18. I Illuminate fisheye shots using multiple Metz heads with at least one bouncing off a wall or ceiling. If you have to remain portable bouncing off a reflector or ceiling is an option. Shooting with your flash off camera through two transparent umbrellas (one on each side) works the best for me. You have many options, you have some good recommendations so far. Hope you have a flash meter, make sure your lighting is uniform.
  19. In medium format I'd go with a Bronica ETRS with the 55mm Zenzanon/Schnieder Shift/Tilt lens for architecture on a good tripod. Off hand I'm not sure what other MF systems have tilt/shit lenses, but that is what you need. The better route to take is a 4x5 camera with a 120 back. A Horseman would be great.

  22. Only the sun making an interesting backlight.
  23. WHY? GS lenses are dirt cheap, why adapt anything that will only give you substandard quality? And the person trying to mount Minolta lenses...what are you smoking? Minolta optics are great but not good enough to cover a negative larger than 24x36mm. Enjoy your Minolta lenses on a Minolta body with 35mm film, and stick with Bronica lenses on Bronica bodies. Everything is so cheap these days, what on earth are you guys thinking?
  24. I am seriously considering buying one soon. I can't resist the 46mp. I own the majority of gold ring primes from 14mm to 600mm, my concerns are not about my lenses being not good enough, my concern is to take full advantage of this sensor will I need a tripod? IVe read posts of D810 owners complaining about movement and mirror slap. Is this BS from some shaky photographers? I have no problem holding my D750 still in low light, I have very steady hands. Your opinions please.
