  1. Summer solstice - when the year turns and the days start to get shorter again. Even though it doesn't feel like it winter is on its way again. I love the skies where I live - and I really love Solstice for some reason the skies at this time of year seem magical.
  2. Ciao Antonio! It's been a while since I've been back on Photo.net, real life got in the way. :o)

I have a few images on the web just now in my old site. you can find them in the archive section of my site (www.karpaty.co.uk). When I get the time to scan in the negs and trannies of this stuff I'll put it up here but there are just so many other negs that are demanding my time at the moment!

Nice pic, I feel it could be improved though. It needs more contrast and it might look better if you crop a bit off the bottom. :o)
  3. Blagoy...

If I was wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you! this is an amazing shot. It caught my eye as I scanned through your work and I'm not dissapointed once I clicked on it.

What can I say but Bravo!

  4. A cold, winters day just east of the Rocky Mountains somewhere in Alberta. It was the first car we'd seen in a good half hour or so. Reason enough to take the photo I thought. :o)
  5. Thanks Jayme, the background was desaturated and I copied and blurred the image - and then set the mode to soft light to give it this effect. It works really well on these sort of images, producing a dream like effect. :o)
  6. LoL Antonio, OK, I don't take many Jazz shots - mostly rock bands to be honest. I'll dig some out and stick them up here and feel free to take a pop at them! :op

I don't dislike the shot but you are right there is something disturbing about it. I think it works (for me) as a smaller image.

  7. Hi Antonio, sorry but this doesn't work for me. I've done a lot of music photography in my time (as my partial deafness can testify!) and although I can't fault the exposure, I feel that the composition could have been better. For me I would rather have had the guitarists face further left. could you have moved a few paces to the left of where you were or were you stuck in the one spot? (I hate that, not being able to move to get the shot I wanted) I do love the out of focus trumpet though. :o)
  8. A grab shot on the very busy Ponto Vecchio bridge (If you've ever been to Florence you'll know what I mean). The serenity of this couple caught my eye and I tripped the shutter. They are oblivious to the thronging masses only a few feet away.

I love it, but what do you think? Comments, as always, greatly appreciated.

  9. Hi Par, yeah it is pretty typical scottish weather :p

I would try and boost the contrast in the shot and perhaps darken down the bottom right corner a little. Have you also tried to darken down the sky to make it a little more dramatic? It might be worth a try. :)

Another image from the centre of my city. I used to live 5 mins away from this spot. In ages past this Royal park was home to monks and the ruin above the loch is all that remains.

Deserves a 5x7 tranny? well, it would be nice yeah...

BUT that sigma is an awsome camera - and yes I am jeaslous! :o) I don't agree at all. I have an A1 print (on an HP designjet 1000 series) from a digital file - from a coolpix 950 no less (that is a 2megapixel file) 30" is a BIG print and the quality is superb.

    Superb image by the way.

It used to be the dingy part of town but now its the place to be. These cranes no longer work - they are a memory of a bustling port that serviced the world and built some fine ships. Now they stand as a memory of what once was.

Before the Parliment there was just a Palace and a Park. This is a pre-parliment picture of the Palace and park of Holyrood. Although you might not believe it this photograph is taken slap-bang in the heart of the city.

    I love Edinburgh sometimes!
