  1. Was it ever exposed to high temps, such as those found in a parked car in the summer? This happened to my 50mm. I used it one week in the summer and everything was fine; the next week it had oil on the blades. In between those two outings, I had left the lens in the trunk of my car (because I was careless and the lens was cheap). It's a tedious but not hard job to clean those blades.
  2. I really wish Nikon would consider making an FTZ with a focus motor. I have a ton of AF-D lenses and I don’t plan to upgrade them.
  3. You were right. I had high efficiency selected and didn't realize it.
  4. I was mistaken. I just looked at it again. It is a Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB SDXC card. So, it's a little less than 150GB. But would that be enough to cause the big differences I'm seeing between the shots remaining number on each camera?
  5. The D850 has one SDXC/SDHC/SD slot and one CFX/XQD
  6. Hi, I recently purchased a Z9 and a D850. Both have 150GB cards in both card slots (2 cards in each). Both are set to output 14-bit Lossless-Compressed Raw + JPG Fine. Both have the 2nd Card slot set to "Backup" mode. My question is this: The Z9 shows that I have 2.2k shots remaining when the cards are empty. The D850 shows 996 shots remaining. What is causing this discrepancy? Is the D850 not recognizing the full 150Gb?

  10. Does a Nikon F4s count? By my reckoning, it's barely an auto camera...... Nikon 600mm F/4 Fujichrome Velvia 50

  14. You don't need a reason to upgrade to an F100. It is a fantastic camera.

  16. This seems to happen to all of the Nikon bodies from that era with the soft rubber. It happened to my N80, F100, and F5. It does not happen to the older models with the harder, smooth rubber; N8008, N6006, N90, etc. Like Henricsv said, you can clean the layer of deteriorating rubber off with rubbing alcohol.
  17. Are you only looking for a zoom? The 300mm F/4 AF-S is fairly inexpensive these days and performs ok with the TC-14EII teleconverter. I use mine often with a TC-17E.
  18. Do you have (or know anyone who owns) a flash meter? At least then you could test to see if the flash power is being varied and not just firing at full power every time.
  19. So I took a chance on a first gen because I imported one from Japan for a good price. AF works great so far. Fingers are crossed that it will continue to work for a while. I still focus manually most of the time so I think I’ll be ok. I was surprised by the speed. It is faster (and quieter) than my 300mm f/4
  20. I had my film scanned in my carry-on for years and never had it damaged. I have not flown recently so I don’t know if the x-ray machines are more powerful today or not.
  21. I’ve been using my 300 f/4 with the TC-17e since 2001 so I’m focusing manually most of the time. I will cross my fingers and hope that the af-s motor holds out but it wouldn’t kill me if it died.
  22. I have two and they both work fine. You are correct that fast AF is not a priority for me.
