Very nice capture, I appreciate your using BW presentation here and also the sky fits perfectly with the "expression" of the statue. Very good composition and strong placement of the elements (the jaws and eyes on the left, the dome as a counterweight, the street drawing me in...) Beautiful in its way... Maybe I'd give it a little more contrast or deepen the blacks, but that is only a finishing touch...

(I stopped giving rates but this deserves the best)

  1. Great perspective and composition. Water usually works best looking up the stream, but in this case it's very nice and yes, dramatic. I can feel the need to step back as not to slip with the flow... And the lines are nicely pointing to the trees down there... Btw. did you place those red leaves there, or was it the kindness of mother nature? :-) (Not meaning it's bad. They're certainly worthy to bring my eyes back from the depth...)

Julio, the Rio Tinto must be a wonderful place to roam around. A very interesting shot. But in my eyes, the saturation is just too high, and especially in the background it's difficult to discern the details. I'm lost there. As an abstract originating in nature, it's beautiful...

  2. Walter, I can clearly see you've been very carefull with the composition and i like your view. I may have different taste about your "di-dy" filter whose effect is just too strong for me (I prefer the version of Vincent's [i think] with less magenda). But that is only a personal taste. And it might look different on the slide and in the print... I'll also have to check this shot on a different monitor, as it's a bit darkish (but I know this monitor is bad)...

    Update:

It's not that dark (it was the monitor)... :-)

  3. Very beautiful image, Walter. I really like the painting of water (it could be interesting as an abstract on its own, just the veil of falling water and then the flow, btw.) and then a nice complementary background... And I also don't think you over-did the sharpening, it's just right as I see it... a beautiful photo...

At first sight (and especially the thumbnail), I thought, Colin this was nothing special and maybe on the contrary. But I went on to see the larger version. And then it all at once popped much more interesting...

For me, there are 2 triangle pairs of similarity. The first pair being the pebblish ground with the white chalk boulders (I'd also prefer them to be separated, but I guess you're not tall enough :-) and the sky with the clouds being a mirror objects. The second pair of wedges is the water and the cliff. Those two might not be that interesting, but they are necessary as they connect and finish all the other elements here.

And getting back to my original impression, the texture of pebbles is very fine and needs either large monitor or better a large print. Then it could be very interesting...

  4. Kim, I have left the original along with this new version for some time, and the impressions of the new version were good. Therefore I deleted the previous version. And it's not possible to modify the critique request...

    But thanks anyway...

  5. David, this one is one of the best of your river series. Most interesting for the (wet) detail in the rocks, the dynamic feeling of water and me pertaining it's power. And the trees in background serving as a focus...

Jiri
