This guy was the chief flag man at a highway construction site in

Guatemala. He looked friendly, but when a bus tried to run the blocked

area, he pulled out his machete, jumped on the bus and threatened to

cut off the driver's head if he didn't pull over.

  1. Hi

Thanks for taking the time to comment - this was indeed in Central America - in the highlands of Guatemala. Eerie feeling with the floating mountains - fantastic place to go, but not very safe at present.

    Cheers

It could be cropped tighter, and the light on the head / face is a bit dim. I also wonder if a wider f stop would isolate it better from the background. Here is one I took in the Guatemala City zoo - very orange colour, quite a bit different from yours. I think he looks a bit evil. They are great birds to photograph, aren't they? Have fun.

This is an absolutely stunning photo - amazing sharpness and isolation, colour balance is hard to believe - fantastic light on the face - one of the best bird photos I have ever seen anywhere. (I see some 6 ratings - wonder what their 7 is?) A masterpiece.

Nice progression, lighting. Wonder what it would have looked like the other way around with the bud at the bottom and the open one at the top?

Some beautiful colour and drama here - but I think the foreground detracts from the impact - this is hard to avoid in a sunset but I wonder what it might look like with tighter and slighly higher cropping. I think this might print out very well at a large size.
  2. Very magical feel. How did you do this one? Can you supply some details? How much Photoshop, and what tools did you use? Would like to learn from you. Thank you for a very enjoyable photo.

  4. Stumbled across a full moon ceremony on a hilltop outside of

Chichicastenango on the full moon of April 2007. The altar there is

known to have been continuously in use over 2,000 years. A chicken had

just been sacrificed, and a wedding was about to get underway. Essence

of the ceremony is unchanged in millenia - Catholicism is a recent

event, slightly mixed in with the tradtions in town, but in the

countryside, traditional Mayan ceremonies prevail to this day.

  5. Being swept along, I turned around and looked back at the crowds

spewing out of the trains at the Munich Stadium, to see Brazil vs

Australia. This doesn't come close to capturing the feeling but does

    give an idea.
