  1. Guys this is really appreciated.

I will most likely stay away from tourist spots like Mt. Rushmore, but will focus more on sunrise/sunset landscape shots.

I will definately checkout the off-loop gravel roads on the wildlife loop at Custer State Park. Can you be there after or before hours or are they really strict?

How about the areas marked as "grasslands" that I'm seeing on maps?

    Again, thank you so much.

  2. Eric,

    Thank you! Nice photos.

Would you suggest any other locations to shoot, within 150 miles of the Badlands, in the 3 weeks that I will be there?

I will be staying in Hot Springs.

  3. I'm planning on being in the Badlands region of South Dakota for 2-3 weeks in

July and would really appreciate tips and advice on locations for wildlife and

    landscape shots.

How are the parks in that area? Is off-road driving access to locations limited?

    Thank you in advance.

  4. Mr. Larson,

I agree with you. I was only asking for my information. And, we should thank you for spending a great deal of time adding your knowledge to this website: thank you.

However, I will say, Photo.net will not get another year's subscription from me again because it's not necessary.

  5. In the US your photos are automatically copyrighted when you take the photo.

However, with a registered copyright you have more options when pursuing an infringer, for instance, you may be able to obtain legal fees and there are other rights.

This website/link has been very helpful and I suggest reviewing it.

To answer the original question: I copyright all photos that will be printed.

  6. Arthur,

Yes, Fuji recently committed themselves again to film:

I don't know if you've noticed, but recently Fuji has placed full page ads in some photo magazines stating that they are committed to film (I forget the exact words).

I noticed your two other "alarming" posts:

  7. "That will be the end of your little bussiness."

I would add "and you" if you are not protected because you could be sued personally and lose everything to legal fees even if you win a case or settle out of court.

Heck, you could be sued because your camera flash caused momentary blindness and the person fell and hurt their back. That person would sue the hall, you, etc...

  8. Ilkka,

Are you talking about companies like Sony, Fuji, Canon and Nikon sharing optics and camera subcontractors?

Are you saying this because the EU funds helps less developed countries?

I'm not sure where the monopoly is. Can you be more specific, which company is a monopoly? Fuji?

  9. Assuming your contracts outlined specific usage, figure out a fair fee and charge them, you won't get anything less than a legal battle if you demand 5x in "punitive" damages. Do you want to get paid or do you want to fight?

I would also suggest that your lawyer write them with your invoice. What if there were other usages that you don't know of yet?

    Good luck.

  10. Ilkka,

I can understand your point, yes, keeping the money here at home or near where you live is preferable for the local economy. But Hasselblad was always centered in Sweden, so money went there and didn't stay local (assuming most live elsewhere).

It's not like JAPAN is making all the cameras, different companies in Japan make cameras. Those companies compete for customers on a number of factors, one important one being price.

You are right, if there are only one or two camera manufacturers, it won't only be price we'll have to worry about, quality will crash too. But hopefully, if prices are too high, competition will eventually arise to take care of that.

  11. The Fuji lenses are of excellent build and high quality and may even be better than the Zeiss equivalent if not the same. Provided they stand up to Hasselblad and Hasselblad customer requirements, who cares where they are made.

There are a lot of complainers out there who will tell you that the Fuji lens are not as good as Zeiss and I'd bet that they made those statements without ever testing a Hasselblad lens made by Fuji. If there are lens test reports to prove it then let's see them, otherwise it's probably just bad grapes because they are now made in Japan and not in Europe.

Hasselblad probably switched to Fuji to control costs. Who knows.
