Just for fun, here's a 100% crop from the 4x5 neg, scanned at 2400dpi on an Epson 4990. I don't know if I will print it huge but I can if I want :-)

  1. Hi Lance. I do remember that day and what I did to get this image.
First, it's a 4x5, and this composition is a crop. The original wasn't nearly as good - it included much more of the ridge on the right.

As for metering, I used my trusty incident meter and simply pointed the dome at the setting sun and set the camera to exactly what it said. That's about as complicated as I get. If I don't have direct access to the same light the subject is in I take a wild guess - not the best approach with slide film!

Thanks for your comments and have a great trip.

This is a re-request. I made an awful toning choice on the first

effort. Eventually I'll learn that I'm colour challenged and stop

putzing about with things. Please comment. Thank you.

    Steven,
I don't think that this photo required LF to be created, it was what I was using at the time, though. I'm still getting used to using the 8x10...it's a bit of a beast to say the least.
I have grown a bit bored with digital. I find it's too easy to use, without much challenge as I chimp my way through thousands of photos. The LF does require much though before, during and after the exposure. I'm happy simply to see an image on the neg when I turn on the lights.

I have to admit I wasn't too sure how to crop this. I played around and landed on one that fit the 13x19 paper I was printing on. Sure, not a great basis for a decision, but that was my mood last night :-)

I'm attaching the full frame for reference. It's not bad, now that I look at it again...maybe I should have kept my grubby paws off it.

    Robert
