    House Finch

          5

This is a male House Finch. I find it interesting that they will hang

around on the electrical wires but very few of them actually come down

to the perches. There are more females that actually show up around

the perches and feeders. The males seem content to just watch.

    Lavender Farm

Terrific landscape with wonderful leading lines and form. You've done a really good job with the detail. Very nice contrast with the background mountains. This is nicely composed.

This is a small waterfall very close to Wahclella Falls, and image of

which I posted yesterday and is in this folder. This is in the

    Columbia Gorge region of Oregon.

The adults Turkey Vulture can have a wingspan of just under 2 m. They

are fairly large birds and typically weigh in the neighborhood of 2

kg. This image was taken at a wildlife refuge in southern Washington,

the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. I was there twice over the

last week. Each time I saw Turkey Vultures. Several of them flew

within 10 m of my car and I was impressed with their size.

  1. This male juvenile American Goldfinch was in the deep shade with a

sunlit background this morning around 7 AM. As a result, I had a slow

shutter speed of about a 60th of a second and there was a fraction of

movement. This gives a slight painterly presentation which is a little

    different from my typical work.

    Duck Lunch 2

          2

This was taken at the same time as a previously posted image which is

also in this gallery. This is just another wing position. You can

decide which one you like better. They are similar except for the wing

    position.

    Getting a buzz on

          5

I have a Cotoneaster Bush is covered with bees of different varieties

in the late spring. This was taken with a macro lens handheld. I was

really surprised at how difficult it was to get everything in focus. I

must have shot at least 100 images to get this one shot in reasonably

good focus. But I think it is worth it. It was fun to do.

  2. There is another image of this interaction in this folder. I processed

this image today for the first time and was surprised at the level of

detail in the image. The first image has a much more personal level of

interaction which is why I did not process this one initially. This

one does have interesting wing positions. Thanks for your thoughts.

    Tasty Clematis

          3

This is a juvenile American goldfinch. Even though it is very close to

one of my feeders, it prefers to eat the Clematis. Several juveniles

were tearing the flowers apart and eating them. It was fun to watch.
