Ok, the border I could remove -- unfortunately, the wind at Assateague kept the mane firmly over his face -- until he turned and trotted off.

The colors are fantastic -- I'm jealous that I wasn't there to (try to) capture it! lovely!

Nice sharp focus, contrasted with the softness of the running water.

  1. To be honest, I was snapping pictures of the foliage when I caught sight of myself in the side mirror; like a magpie, I am attracted by bright things. :)

I know it's been done before; I'm sure it's been done better. :D It is the first time I managed with my AF camera to get the DOF effect in the background to look good.

:) Can't do much about the glare, it was late in the afternoon -- as for the dirt on the mirror, well, as I said, I wasn't planning to take this one... next time I'll have my fiance wash the car (j/k)!

    Regards,

    Kat

  2. John, I'd leave it as is -- after all, even in a concert hall, there's always one yahoo answering a cell phone or heading to the little bird's room. ;) Seriously, I love it as is and I hope to be as lucky in capturing a moment like this. Well done!

As for the "anthropomorphizing" issue -- I really don't see how it's relevant to the photograph. Surely it's obvious to everyone here that the pelicans are NOT singing -- I'd probably guess as earlier mentioned a threat display or possibly grabbing for a tidbit of fish flung their way. I certainly don't think this picture spells doom for all animal life on Earth simply because we can smile at it.

The rock in the foreground is out of focus and distracting, IMHO. I would try a tighter cropto reduce that large, white fuzzy area, because the frog itself, the pond, and the rock it is sitting on are nicely shot.
  3. I like it quite a lot. If it is convenient, you might consider shooting it again in softer light (early morning or twilight), and a slightly soft focus -- :) this reminds me very much of Claude Monet.

This is a pleasant shot. I wish the colors might have been a little more dramatic, and they might possibly have been so a minute or so before this was taken. My admiration of pinks, blues, golds and purples is, however, purely a matter of personal preference.

The focus is a bit too soft for my tastes. I would have liked to see more detail -- the curve of the spine, the fold of a hip. If not for the title, I would not know what exactly I was looking at.

A similar shot which I can't help comparing to yours is this:

In this shot, the slightly sharper focus, the details in the model's skin, and the coin(?) which became moon or sun adds a bit of interest to the shot.
