  1. When I was out in the field shooting assignments for a very uncreative daily newspaper in NYC, I shot in the Program mode. My only concern was to get an image on their digital camera and get to the next assignment. It wasn't how good an image you could get, but how many assignments they could get out of you.

Afer 20 plus years in journalism, the last 12 at that "rag" I retired.

  2. I can think of two....batteries new??? try taking out the batteries and replacing them with fresh one's...also...shutter lock on??? There's a lever on the shutter button that locks the shutter...turn it one way or the other...you should see a red dot that means it's on.

Do you have the motor drive on it?

    Hope this helps.

  3. Just want to go on record that the Service Dep't at Pentax in

Colorado did a wonderful job repairing my 11 year old 645. I have

shot several rolls since the return and the camera is operating

great. I look towards another 11 years of fine service from this

    machine.

I shout out a "Thanks" to the good folks at Pentax Colorado!

  4. Hi Marc:

I'd go with Ilford Multigrade paper and their Multigrade filters. Some photo stores sell a intro pack with paper and filters.

Kodak stopped making b/w paper at the end of 2005. Although Kodak Polycontrast is still out there, why buy it, if it's going bye-bye.

I find Ilford is a much better paper with better and stronger contrast.

    Hope this helps.

  5. KAL: I'm not sure where you reside...but ToCAD America is the new distributor here in the USA. They can service G2's. ToCad America, 300 Webro Rd, Parsippany NJ, 07054. Phone: 973-428 9800 web site: www.tocad.com. I found this info on the B&H Photo links FTIW.

I hope this can help. I too own a G2 and fear the day when it needs service.

  6. IMHO a BFA is an investment into your future.

I questioned why I went for a degree in fine arts when most photog's I was working with at a newspaper were mostly self taught.

Comes the day when I had enough of blind photo editors and learned of a job opening at my local college for a photo instrutor. The newspaper career got me in the door, the BFA landed the Ass't Prof teaching position.

One never knows what tools your future may require.

  7. Thank you one and all for your advise. I'll pass on dumping onto my neighbor's land under the dark of night. The silver magnet does sound interesting and something I may explore when the time comes. In the meantime I still have my b/w darkroom here in NYC, and frankly, a digital layout upstate is gaining my interest with it's zero pollution quality.

Me, digital LOL!!!!! Let's see what Santa Wife brings Daddy in December.

    Thank you.

  8. My wife and I are planning a relocation to the land of septic tanks

in upstate NY from NYC. I have looked into the dumping of used

chemicals into the septic system and decided it's something I should

    not do.

My question is to owners of septic systems...what do you do with

    your used chemicals????

My wife says go digital but I can't find a place for a compact flash

thing on my M6! (sorry, poor joke).

    Thank you for your time.

  9. I use both...not at the same time mind you. I use the G2 for those fast grab shots when I work on street pix and when I'm with my wife..cause she doesn't like to stop when I see something.

My M6 is used for the times when i'm alone and can afford the time to compose, and play with the light...and simply enjoy the creation of photography.

Both cameras have their merits and I love to use both..couldn't live without them.

Was so sorry to hear of the 'passing' of the G2, but then again, so is my M6, a thing of the past. Such is life.

  10. This reminds me of a funny story regarding this photo news editor I worked for in the pre digita days. This guy demads all photogs to shoot with nothing slower than 2.8 max aperture lenses. I had a 3.5 Series 1 zoom which did the job for me. I'd push the b/w film to 800 and I was set. This jerk never knew the difference.

I guess if you're shooting alot of interior or night shots, the 2/3 loss could make a difference...better to shoot at 1/60 thaan 1/30.

Depends on when your shooting. Shooting film? push a stop.

  11. Greetings to all you 2 1/2 square shooters.

I am thinking of buying a Rollei TLR and looking for feedback from

users. Any models I should steer clear of? I am interested in the

    non-metered models...maybe a 3.5E or 2.8C..have been doing some

    research on Rollei websites.

Any response would be a learning process for me and appreciated.

  12. Gotta give a shout out of thanks with two thumbs up to Sherry

    Krauter of Golden Touch.

Thinking I was in need of a CLA, she examined the camera to find it

only needed an adjustment at a fraction of the cost to repair the

problem. Her turnover time was days, and the camera has never been

    better.

    An honest repair person...too cool.

  13. Not to leave you good folks hanging...the working of the shutter did't work...a test rolls reveals the problem still there after the 'workout.'

Looks like a trip to Sherry's may be in order.

Am I looking for a CLA at this point????

Thank you all...happy and safe holiday's to you all.

  14. Gotta thank you all for your quick replies to my problem. I am working the shutter at 1000 of sec and other speeds and will do a test Thursday or Friday.

My problem is too many "toys" Nikon, Pentax and the like and not enuf time to play with them.

Guess my Leica toys wanna play more than the others cameras on the block!
