The geysers of El Tatio on the Altiplano in Northern Chile in Nature 4 Posted July 15, 2002 We woke up at three in the morning and drove to these geysers on the Altiplano. At over 4000 m elevation it was freezing cold. In fact, the hot water outside the geysers quickly froze solid. When the sun came up, the landscape suddenly transformed into a mystical scene with vapour and light. I was able to move my fingers again, and took this silhouette shot of tourists admiring the power of nature.
