Thanks for the comments. Regarding the crop, I actually like portraits with the subject in a corner and a larger background and I was looking for this result when I shot the picture.

He's a painter so the books on the background might not be 100%

appropriate (this is his studio anyway) but I really like his

Very nice, but I don't like the "wide" crop. I think also that we should judge such images from a large print, since there is not much to see in a small compressed jpg.

Nice composition. Looks like you desaturate the background to make the windows stand out, but I don't like it much.
