Its been a year since I was there, but try Ron's Camera in the basement of the Adelphi Centre, as he can direct you to someone. Ron has an excellent selection of Leicas & LF stuff by the way.

There is also a tiny shop in the Peninsula hotel near the hawker's stands- name I forget- who did some good work for me there.

For years I have used a cup of plain tap water with about a teaspoon of ordinary vinegar, for each 35 mm roll or even 5 sheets of 8 x 10

film in a Jobo rotary processor, then dump down the sink. One-shot use is always best.

Al that is needed is the diluting effect of water that is slightly acidic to neutralize a few milligrams of alkalai left in the film. Citric acid

would also do quite nicely, but is more expensive. A gallon of vinegar at WalMart for $1.99 lasts over a year. I mix the vinegar after I

have poured the developer into the tank.

  3. I went for some X Rays today and asked the tech how the new systems work.

They have a plate of phosphors, like a CRT/TV screen that goes where the film USED to go. When it is

bombarded with X rays, the phosphors take on a charge corresponding to the intensity of the rays hitting

it after going through my body. The plate is then put in a reader and scanned and the digital image

appears on a screen in a few seconds.

The output to the doctor is a CD with the file on it that the Dr. can read back in the office. The plate is

then bombarded with a high energy laser to restore the charges to the original state and it is ready to be

used once again. No silver film, no smell of fixer and an ever-decreasing demand for film of any kind, and

you know what follows. Oh well!

That is a treasure! I had the 8 x 10 version of that model and it was great. That lens will take

excellent pictures if it is clean and aligned. That tripod with the brass fittings make my mouth

water. It is almost too good to use, but I assume you are not a Leica-like collector.

Check out Jim Galli's website for example of what can be done with old (and some of his are

    REALLY old) lenses.

  5. Hi There

I saw it and it was rather dull. If you like pictures of trees and roots structures, this is for you.

I was bored after the first few. Luckily I am am member of the Met and I didn't have to pay to

get in and there are always other fantastic things to see there, so the afternoon wasn't

completely wasted. The best part was the print quality. My opinion-YMMV.

  6. Hi

Ron's Camera in the basement of the Adelphi Centre, across from the Peninsula and Funan Centre has the best selection, but again, BE ADVISED, there precious few bargains in Singapore. Ron has many -dozens- Leicas, but they are usually only in prime condition and you pay for it. It is less than 5 min walk from the City Hall MRT.

  7. Hi There

google Shen Hao Professional Camera Co. and see there stuff & specs. I have an 8x10- Titanium & Teak and it is great. VERY well made. They also made me a bag bellows so I can use my 120mm SW Nikor. It is almost a part-for-part clone of the Ebony.

  8. In my recent post I made a small typographical error and my post kept getting

rejected with the comments "remove the sailor mouth and try again". I finally

realized what was meant and tried through many re-reads of the post to find

what was bugging the Censor. I saw I had omitted the letter "o" from the

    word "accounted".

Our moral fibre is in good hands and we shall remain free frrom lassitude and

uncontrolled descent for a long time to come.

This reminds me of an incident years ago where an office assistants was

sending out invitations for a golf tourement at the "Tall Pines" club. She

realized only after she had mailed out several hundred that she had

interchanged the "e" and the "i" in Pines! We all survived with a few good

    chuckles.

  9. Hi All

Seveal months ago I had the privilege of touring the Raytheon(Leitz)plant in

Midland Ontario on other business. It is alive and well, making mostly

military and special cinema lenses as well as elements for other lens

    manufacturers, including for the Noctilux.

In one corner I saw a lady carefully hand lapping a series of glass blocks

that would soon end up in Noctilux lenses in Germany, saying "Made in Germany".

The main products are now rifle sights for western armies in the Iraqi and

Afghan conflicts. If you see an American or Canadian soldier with a rifle, the

sight came from Midland. Much of the grinding and polishing equipment is still

that brought over from Wetzlar after the (other)war. There are some newer

Japanese machines, such as the Electron Beam Coater.

Thye most intersting part of the visit was to the unofficial "Leica Museum"

under the care of the plant manager who was there when it changed from Leitz.

For "security reasons" I can not say where it is or exactly what is in it, but

suffice to say, anyone who is a regular on this forum would drool, then faint

if he/she saw what they have.

As a small example I saw 4 absolutely Mint M4 bodies, as well as lenses I had

only heard about and some I had not heard about, including one of which 12

copies were made for the Canadian Navy. They have one there and they know of

10 others but one is unaccounted for. I think it is a f.95 90 mm monster. (I

may have the exact numbers wrong as I did not take notes.) If you have this

hang on to it or sell it for big bucks!

When asked what will happen to the pieces "when the time comes", all I got was

    an enigmatic smile.

    Cheers

  10. As far as I know, only certain lens elements are made in the former Leitz plant in Midland Ontario Canada by Raytheon, who now own and operate the falcilty. The elements are shipped to Germany for assembly in to the final lens. The complete noctilux has not been made in Canada for many years.

Then Canadian ones were always at least as "good" as any made in Germany.

  11. In a recent issue of the LA Times there is a story by and about one of their

photographers, Louis Sinco, who took what is an "Iconic" image of the Iraq war

and the follow-up on how the pohoto changed two lioves.

The link is to the first part and there is a second embedded in the first.

    tot-topstories

    Really great stuff.

What would the story have been of Capa's photo of the soldier getting shot.

The photographer who took the photo of the burned Vietnamese girl did meet

her later. Remember the follow up to the Afghan Girl image?

These are wonderful stories of the real power of a single photo.

  12. Hi

I have a 00 shutter but I do not have access to it. It was used to mount a 50 mmf4 enlarging lens for copying. I was hoping to sell it but I wont not be back home until Xmas. Oh well.

    cheers

  13. Hi

I lived i Singapore off and on for 6 years and had problems only with lens fungus, so I bought en elecrically heated Dry Box- then, no problem.

My favourinte shop was Ron's, in the basement of Adelphi Centre. I've not been there in over a year, but if he is still in business, I can say he always dealt fairly with me and I will not hesitate to go back when I return. I bought an M6 from him and it was great!

    Cheers

  14. I have checked the archives and can not find a direct answer.

Can I use the 28 mm PC lens with the D80? I know AF, Program, Aperture and

shutter proirity will not work but can I use stop down metering and manual

    focus?

    Thanks

  15. Look for details on split D23- one of the very best developers for LF negs used for Alternate processes such as Pt/Pd.

Very simple- Sol'n A- 5 gm Metol + 100 gm sod Sulfite. Sol'n B Borax 5-9 min agitated 10 sec min in A, no rinse then 3 min in B no agitation.

Check those times as they are from memory.

    Cheers
