1.
Echoing Craig's advice-if you are a week away from the trip I would suggest you use the camera you have and are familiar with. I have a Fuji X-T1 based travel setup to complement my Nikon DSLR system-and i spent 2 months using the system before using it on a trip.

  2. Great colors and very nice composition. Congratulations.

A beautiful scene and very well composed; really stands out in the larger view.I'm wondering how it might look if the building in the background were lightened slightly. Congratulations, Phil

Very nice mood and the toning adds to the effect. The background behind the box adds an element of depth. I find the very light area in the upper right hand side to be somewhat distracting-maybe a different angle would have taken care of it. To me, this is the kind of image that would be great in a series of the Saturday market theme. Congratulations, Phil

    Funk Zone 2

Thanks for your viewing and comment. The shot is busy-really violating the rule of simplify with a strong point of interest. I was trying to portray the crazy mixtures in the aptly named Funk Zone in Santa Barbara. As it has become better know in recent years, some of the old shops have given way to wine bars, restaurants, and "surf" shops that mainly sell clothing to tourists. Thanks again, Phil

  13. Thanks for your viewing and kind comment. I have to admit a love-hate relationship with this lens. It is heavy, doesn't take filters easily, with its protruding front element it is susceptible to damage, etc. At the same time, a high percentage of images that I like are made with this lens. Thanks again, Phil

    Ellwood Monarchs

Thanks for your viewing and comment. The monarch butterflies of the west mainly winter along the coast of Central and Southern California. They require very specific wintering and breeding conditions. Thankfully there are many initiatives to preserve these habitats. Thanks again, Phil

Your viewing and comments are appreciated. Sitting in the eucalyptus grove and watching them is a wonderful experience; getting a nice image is "frosting on the cake" Thanks, Phil

Your comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated. Within minutes of my home, there is a wintering site for Monarch Butterflies. A wonderful experience to watch them . In a couple of weeks they wil be gone on their way North.
