  1. <p>Isn't ownership related to sharing. Some photographs I take the responsibility to share, some I do not. Those photographs that I share I feel accountable for. I own all my photographs, but I share only some of my photographs. Maybe some of what we are communicating about revolves around the distinction between owning and sharing? I do share some of my unexpected photographs.<br>

As I write this I think also about the distinction between expected and unexpected. Maybe another aspect of what we are sharing is the distinction between expected and unexpected in out photographs?</p>

  2. <p>The unexpected instant in time is the essence of photography. If we try to eliminate that random instant through stubborn concepts or aggressive manipulation we are removing photography from photography. It is sort of like fishing or wildlife viewing, we can prepare, but ultimately there is a sense of luck that turns our preparation into reality, we have to court and prepare for the instant and be grateful for the result. </p>
  3. <p>Check out he Interior Alaska Photo group on Yahoo, they are very helpful<br>

  4. <p>Actually during June and July it can be beautiful, in the Fall and Winter it can get pretty grey, but the idea of Seattle weather being always rainy is sort of a myth. <br>

    See this link <a href="http://www.beautifulseattle.com/clisea.htm">http://www.beautifulseattle.com/clisea.htm</a><br>

" Summers in Seattle are usually warm, dry, and sunny, with long days and cool nights. The driest time of year in Seattle is the last half of July and the first half of August. During this time period, Seattle will often go ten, twenty, or thirty days without any measurable precipitation. The warm, mild weather often continues into fall, with cooler temperatures at night --- the rainy season in Seattle doesn't officially begin until October 1. Winter is the wettest season in Seattle. Spring in Seattle is mild and green, but it can be very wet at times."</p>

  5. <p>Tacoma is near Seattle and is also worth exploring. It is easy to get there by train and bus. There is interesting architecture and many places with personality. Please feel free to contact me for ideas and sharing. I will send my email address to you or you can get it in my profile.<br>

  6. <p>I did not like it, the camera was awkward to use. I did not bond with it at all. I sold it. I also have an LX3 that I love, especially with the firmware upgrade. One area, beside the interface, that I did not like is that I could not use RAW+JPEG to make Black and White JPEG files and the RAW file. When I chose RAW+JPEG it would only display in color. I like to previsualize in Black and White. I believe that the G10 allowed Black and White JPEG and RAW files. The S90 sounded great, but to me it was an awkward camera that was not fun or responsive.<br>

  7. <p>First I live in Alaska which is a part of the United States and not part of the lower 48. Whenever somebody says lower 48 in their listing I need to email them to correct the situation. USPS Priority works great anywhere in the United States. Alaska is part of the USA. I have sold many things to foreign buyers, I use USPS Global Express with insurance and it works well anywhere. I have extra forms at home and fill them out before going to the post office. The USPS web site works great for estimating shipping costs. I have no problems with deliveries or with customs or shipping. Global Express also provides tracking so it is worth the extra cost compared to Priority Mail. I have sold many things by being willing to sell worldwide. I also have made contact with many interesting people. I turn over my photo equipment looking for the mythical perfect system so I have sold lenses and cameras.</p>
  8. <p>There is no excuse for not answering email! I no longer use KEH because of their poor email communication. I sent back a bad Bronica back and never got an email answer. I finally emailed a person using a KEH listing on eBay and got a response. If you are in business, and want people to continue to use your service, answer your email. KEH, for me, does not have a good reputation.</p>
  9. <p>I was going to make the same change but I have 4 1TB disks formatted with NTFS. My understanding that Macs will read, but not write to NTFS through a Firewire or USB Connection. I have Lightroom Libraries on the external NTFS disks. If I could figure a work around that was simple and transparent I would move to the 24" iMac, but I did not find a solution so I am waiting for Windows 7. If there is more information on writing to external NTFS drives I would appreciate it.</p>
  10. <p>Check out my web site, www.wanderinginfairbanks.com. If you are here for the solstice there is a great street fair all evening. Will you have transportation? The drive from Fairbanks to Nenana is beautiful if the weather is good, heading up to Chatanika is worth the drive. In town Creamer's Field is about it for nature. Going out Chena Hot Springs Road to Angel Rocks is a good day trip. The rocks are beautiful.<br>

  11. I purchased a back for my Bronica ETR system, there was a light leak, the communication was good until I returned the back. I never heard from them again, I emailed multiple times. I finally emailed somebody from KEH, through eBay, and I got an answer. I never got an answer from customer service as to the status of my back. I was disappointed and surprised by the poor communication. I will not buy from them again until they resolve the communication problems. I was courteous and patient in my email, but nothing. I do not intend to order from them until I get communication about the back I returned. I eventually saw, on my VISA bill, that they returned the money, but there communication was terrible.
  12. I used my Olympus E3 two weekends ago at the start of the Yukon Quest, it was -45f. The camera worked great, I didn't! I did need to change the battery after 40 minutes, but that was expected. I have been amazed how well digital cameras work in very cold climates.
  13. When I had a D200 I set one of the shooting banks to black and white and the other to color. I like to see my JPEG images in black and white when I am shooting black and white. I set the custom settings banks for auto focus lenses and manual focus lenses. The settings worked well for me. I have a complete set of AIS manual focus lenses, that was why I initially purchased the D200. I also renamed the banks so that they were easier to remember:)

  14. I go to Denali almost every year, usually for three or four days. I camp at Savage. You have to reserve the bus ride, you can do the reservation on the web. I take the first or second bus. Sometimes the second bus is better because then there are more eyes seeing wildlife. Even though your intention is not to see wildlife it is still worth seeing. The weather can change often, there is no way to plan for it, just accept the way that it is. The weather is usually worse in Denali State Park, so if the weather is bad, it is bad, but it is still worth going. August tends to be rainy, but it is unpredictable. Some years it is a beautiful month.

Hatcher Pass is a beautiful area, especially if you hike, or are willing to drive through the pass. Here is a link to some of the scenery from the bus and hiking around the Savage creek area.

  15. I had high quality 120 reels, Nikor, Kinderman etc and they loaded fine. I got some cheap Kalt reels and they were impossible to load. They were flimsy and did not have a consistent width, so part of your problem might be cheap reels. I threw the Kalt reels away I was so disgusted with them. I did a google search on loading 120 reels and did get some useful illustrations.

  16. I remember an old large plastic camera, I think it sold mail order, it looked like a 60's car with fins, it had a built in flash. It was some kind of scheme where you bought the camera and they would do all the film processing or something. It was complete junk, the pawn shops were full of them for awhile. I know the name of the camera is similar to foton, it was not a foton. I did some Google searching, but could not find a correct reference.
  17. Dwayne's Photo does a good job at a fair price. Do a Google Search. I have been surprised and happy by the price and the choices. I get my film developed, scanned, and returned uncut. They use a Noritsu also. The scans are not the highest resolution, but they are good enough for the web and small prints. If I want larger images I scan them, but having the CD makes selection much easier.
