You should have either underexposed the statue more or over exposed the backround. This may be very difficult to underexpose since your building would have been underexposed in my thinking. Photoshop would perhaps been the best fix. Good composition though.

Perfect photo! I wonder what colors you would have come up with using a Blue and Gold polorizer or a Red Ray. Just other colors but no need to improve here!

This is one of my favorite for a number of reasons...personal they may be. First it is slightly imperfect which makes it more real. My perspective one the world thinks that at times we capture true moments just slightly less than perfect. What draws me is the wisdom that seems to be reflected in the childs eyes. He seems to be an 'old soul' that knows exactly what he wants and leading to your conclusions. Just something slightly out of his grasp.
