What a great example of street photography ought to be. This could have come off a movie set, I love it!

This is a case of being in the right place at the right time. By a

happy accident I had my Mamiya C3 with me - I had been photographing

the child of some friends and was making my way home. It was late

afternoon and the light wasn't good. With an ISO 125 film in the

camera I was working at more or less full aperture, which helped

throw the background out of focus. The resulting negative was

quite 'thin' and required careful printing. I have used Photoshop 6

to clean up dust and specks, and to blur the background a little bit

more.

I love it. Just a few regrets here... The man behind, the camera maybe slightly to high, and the father's face slightly blur... Yet, I really enjoyed seeing this. A great piece of humor to my eyes. Congrats.

Geez... just happened to have your Mamiya handy.. I sick with envy. How fast can you fire off a few frames?? The guy in the center is unfortunate but since you didn't mind enhancing the background blur I wonder if it might be stronger with him blurred a bit into the background??

How did you find three people in 1990 who look as if they just stepped out of a time machine from the 1950's? Maybe that explains their surprised expressions. A great shot, and a refreshing change to see a good candid, human interest picture.

Comment update: Exposure Date has been changed to 1970. At least the duffel coat and sideburns now fit; and since this was the decade fashion forgot, they can be forgiven the rest...!

as much as I dislike the guy in the background, without him it's not real clear this picture was taken 'recently'. and blurring might be weird, considering his proximity to the foreground.

Pick any decade! This photo is so timeless I first thought it was from the '30s. Wonderful expressions. Just wonderful.

I like this image of your your street images. It is interesting the hair (the side burns on the guy in the middle, the girl on the left and clothes on all of them) do not look like 1990 but so the costumes and exessions work well when viewed now. I dont know if It would have the same fealing in colour. this is your leica no? it is not a square.

Congrats for POW!

These characters are really funny - strange faces and all looking astonished, looking in different directions. Low DOF really does it here.

I feel the 4th character - the mustache man in the background - is out of place on this pic. Apart from that, perfect.

Kindly,

Blaise

From a thin neg you have produced a very good end result. The tonal range is excellent and the background gives just enough detail to put the figures in context. You were a touch unlucky with the man behind the main group, but you can't have everthing in the circumstances.

This image certainly caputres an air of awe in the subjects. Mind you, if I was any one of the three main subjects I would bin this image straight away; the elves are right about feeling a little guilty, but I do not see the charm ... even if I did have a bit of a laugh. After my initial reaction, I began to feel sorry for the subjects and hope that they never see this image.

I can tell that you have manipulated the photo with photoshop by the degree of blurring. This manipulation makes the picture stand out. However, I believe trying to make it more subtle would help.

Where's the rickshaw ? Where's the squirrel ? Where's Jim Vanson ? :-)

A very good and funny catch, Mr. David... This picture speak for itself, so I'll save you the thousand useless words... this is not the only genre of photography, but it surely is a darn fine picture in its own genre.

(Yet, I prefer squirrels...:-)

This really is fantastic. I have this as a favourite photo on another photo community website. One of the very best photographs of this type that I've seen. This could easily have been in the Time Life series or in Life magazine from the 50s.
