  1. I love hte juxtaposition of the statues to the man's face. It's a nice pattern shot if someone with an eye really looks at it, obviously some will may give it a quick look and mistake it for a simple vacation shot but that's their problem.

I think I'd tighten the crop just a hair on the left border, to get rid of the half a statue. Otherwise I love the repeating brown tones and repeating faces.

Very intriguing, and commendable! It's nice to see real people in nude portrait pics rather than the usual barbie doll look. I think I'm a little bothered by the hot spot in the shoulder though.

It's often hard to find a nice angle on big buildings, that show off the building without showing off too much of the busy surroundings -- you've found a nice angle without too much extra bumf around. Looks just a hair underexposed though.
  2. The lens in the GT-S is really sharp when you hit the focus right (you have to guess the distance and set it on the lens) -- it's no mean feat hitting it just right at low aperatures though, I'm still practicing quite a lot.

  3. I'm biased but Chicago truly is a magnificent city. What a beautiful skyline shot.

I think I'd crop out the top of the building in front (Water Tower Place?) and maybe stick in photoshop or similar and clean out the window reflections on the top. A tiny counter-clockwise rotate will straighten the horizon if you can manage it without making the (Amaco?) building tilt.

  4. I love big-red just-risen full moons. I think I would have panned left a right a bit to go with the rule of thirds. I'm also a bit curious what a slightly longer exposure would look have looked like, if the sky colour and moon would have been washed or not, as seeing the river a bit more would be nice -- it starts to get dark at the bottom of the frame.

Still very very nice shot, especially given the tricky lighting conditions.

  5. Wow, what a surreal seascape! I think I would have done two pictures though, one with the camera tipped up slightly, to bring out the sky and one tipped down to accentuate the sea, rather than have the horizon through the middle.

I love it. I love candids, and for some reason the elderly are the most photogenic. I used to enjoy "Life" which was chock full of pictures like this, more's the pity this type of photography is out of fashion.
  6. Mike it was really like that, the stones that made up the beach were medium grey and I think reflecting the sky and sea a bit, but I think the scan maybe added a bit (scan was done by a pretty mediocre D&P facility).
  7. Dustin it wasn't a pre-staged photo believe it or not. It really was the cream doing that -- I did move it from the kitchen to the back garden as it was quite dark and the kitchen has fluorescent lighting (ick) but everything else is an unhappy accident. Could the digital look in the corner comes from scaling it (which I did) maybe? Hmm....
  8. At first I thought this was a nice little slice of life but then got drawn into the details. The head on the "drinking water" sampling station is hilarious, the eclectic collection is great in general. Nice eye!

Very very nice! I have to agree with the above comment though, I think a slightly higher depth of focus -- just enough to keep the flowers and the bottom of the wings in focus. Otherwise, beautiful butterfly!
