Ants of the genus Formica (like the one shown here) often strike this pose when they are feeling defensive. It's a very natural position.

Nice shot, I'd spend some time cloning out the dust specks, though.

I find the background to be too busy. It's otherwise a good composition. Perhaps a longer focal length to blur the background more?

Ok, so this one has been already done about a zillion times, but all the same the colors here are bright and pure, and the diverging contrails are a nice touch.

This isn't Apis mellifera, the honey bee that all we westerners are used to. Any idea what species this one is? Apis cerana maybe? Lovely shot, at any rate.
