Hi,
This question has been asked many times before. Do a quick search of the archives and you'll see plenty of opinions.
I have the 1.4 and love it. Only you can determine if the better build and slightly faster lens is worth the extra expense.
Cheers.

Best Buy is only selling the kit that comes with the lens.
-
It will be faster just to take the CF card out of the camera and use a dedicated card reader to do it (cost: $10 or so). It saves your camera battery life too.
-
For those that care, Amazon has updated its website to show the Canon 40D as
shipping tomorrow (August 30). Some folks in Europe and Australia have their
40Ds and have been testing them today.
Cheers.
-
Yeah, that's pretty amazing.
-
Amazon is offering the camera for $1299US.
-
Speaking of slow boats... does anyone have any idea how long it will take B&H before it will have a pre-order option for the 40D?
Cheers,
Dave.

Hannah,
In the news business, it's called "burying" the lead. You should have mentioned that up higher!
Thanks for posting it, though!
Cheers.

And with the $2200 price tag that Amazon had the other day, it's a bit too pricey.
-
Yes. I use it with an Elan 7 (and external battery pack, which lengthens it a bit). And if memory serves, I could also keep my 50mm 1.4 on with the hood turned backwards.
-
I've used the Domke 15x15 wraps available at B&H for about $15. They've worked great for airplane or backpacking trips.
Cheers.

Alright...I shoot an old 1970s 500cm...my mirror is really dirty. But it has yet to impact any picture I've taken. So what's the point of cleaning the mirror?
Let's remember the mirror flips out of the way when making the image...

I agree with Steve. No need to mess around with an old meter. You'll find using a handheld is simple -- and often if you're using a camera that uses EV, you can eyeball the settings very easily.
-
I use B+W filters for most of my lenses. They are all multi-coated (called MRC) -- Yes, they're more money...but there is a difference.
-
And, yes, the 24-70 is an 'L' lens.
-
This has been talked about in several threads recently here on the Medium Format forum...
-
I use just regular AA alkaline batteries. I get hundreds and hundreds of shots with no problems -- maybe it's all those rechargeables!
-
Next it will be all cameras are discontinued...
-
I just use a plain old regular backpack. I wrap my camera and lenses (those that don't have pouches) with a Domke velcro wrap. Works great; is cheap and doesn't look like a camera backpack.
-
I have virtually the same set-up -- but with the RRS quick release. Buy it and don't look back.
-
I use the Maxwell Hi-Lux with my 500 C/M. It's a lot brighter than the original screen. Other than the long time it took Bill to complete the order, I'm completely happy.
-
The D40 will not work on a 500 C/M. It requires a TTL camera like the 503CW. Try the cheap route like Vivitar 283 -- or move up to a more expensive system like Metz or Quantum.
