    Shadows

          1

An F-15 turning causing vapor to form on the wings. In his turn, he cranked it enough to put the top of the plane in shadows, giving it an odd look. The poles in the foreground were in the airport stands, and while they're somewhat distracting, they give the image at least a little bit of context.

Again, clearly not technically perfect, but I think it has a neat look.

  1. Pure luck. Obviously cut off the jet coming from the left-hand-side, but hey, with each of them doing 400 to 500mph, for a closure rate of 800 to 1000mph, this is about as close as I could have hoped to get.

I followed the Angel on the right, panning right to left, and just clicked when I guessed they would be close.

Just a different treatment affect on this photo. Curious as to your thoughts about the look on its own, and in comparison to the other, more traditional treatment included in this folder.

Thoughtful critiques, good or bad, absolutely welcomed. Let 'em fly!

Thanks, Tim. Yeah, that's the feeling that I get when I look at this one. "Get the camera away from me." Kinda funny.

The "woody allen" shot. I still think it's funny that you mentioned that. I really need to revisit your portfolio. Maybe later this weekend when I have a little more time.

Thanks for the comments, guys. Mark, there was a fill from the left, as you can see in the buckle on the collar (it's slightly highlighted on that back side), but certainly the predominant light was from the right.

Exposure on this guy was tough, given his deep, deep, deep brown/chestnut coloring along with the white chest. He was an expressive little dude, though. I only got 2-3 usable shots out of him because he was moving about so much. Just a pup, with all the energy one would expect.

Again, thanks for the compliments AND the suggestions. That's how I learn.

Interesting point. I like this shot, but the tongue does sorta bother me. seems a bit TOO dark.

I think I know how to fix it. It's the result of my using channel mixer (and the selections that I chose) to go b/w.

I'll see what I can do.

Cool effect, nicely done, rather than cheezy. Overall, I think I like the tonality. Looks a biiiit overexposed, possibly, but I don't really trust my monitor for judging that.

Anyway, yes, the story adds to the shot. I'll poke around the rest of your portfolio as well.

Is this side pose cool? Or not so much? I think I like it. The only thing--he looks so sad.

He was really a happy pup (this photo was taken for an SPCA fundraiser). But for whatever

    reason, this shot seems so.....down.

Thoughts? Critiques? Ideas? Open to it all.

Thanks for looking. Please check out some of my other work.

    Regards....

A bit of a different pose, but what do you think? This is an image taken for an SPCA

fundraiser. I'd welcome critiques on framing, exposure, overall feel/content, etc. Pretty much

    anything. Thanks!

She's a she. And yeah, I'm not sure this one isn't my favorite as well. She was very shy, very quiet, and impossibly cute. She was recently adopted, thankfully, so she's in her new home.

    Thanks for the comment.

  2. Great capture. I like it when people aren't afraid to get up-close in the images like this. Even though it crops the head a little, I like it. Well done.

If you get a chance, check out a few of my shots for my local SPCA. All are b/w (they're for a fundraiser that is b/w by design), so they're not as warm as this. And I only had one puppy, but they came out alright.

    Keep it up--

Nice shot, though I don't dig the mirroring effect. I tell you what, I'd be interested in stealing your frame/scratches layer. Nice stuff.

I really like the shot. Sure, if you look at every pixel, you may find a thing here or there you

would take out or change, but I like that it's not sterile and overly-produced, as so many

shots end up being. This one has interesting graphic lines to it, obviously, and I love the

overall balance of light/dark and the tones in between. I think it's fantastic. Beautiful doesn't

have to be perfect or sterile or neat, even though this one is pretty darn neat.

    Nice job, and great portfolio.

  3. This was at Langley last year. That show, as well as the show at Oceana (also in Va. Beach) are great if you're into modern military hardware. Sadly, it's getting harder and harder to see WWII warbirds flying, unless you go to a couple of shows (one in FLA, one in Wisconsin).

The F-86 is slick: so very quiet and graceful compared to the brute force of more modern fighters. It's a pretty bird.
