    after sunset

Brilliant colour-perspective produced by the hazy evening light.

(Interesting how the foreground vegetation resembles a woman lying on her back)

Beautiful "after the rain" light and lovely landscape perspective and variety of greens. For me it works best with the sky cropped (as I saw it scrolling up) which also avoids the problem of the yellow colour.

    Sun dew

          2

The early sun picked out the dew drops on the fine cobwebs covering

the lawn - I chose a very simple composition with almost no

structure to keep the emphasis on the detailed texture.

    Comments and crits are welcome.

This is a very interesting pose that has very different erotic emotions in 3 different situations:

1 - the subject is observed by a non-involved photographer (objective)

2 - she is with her lover (intimate)

3 - she is alone, imagining being with her lover (poetic)

... and I think the third is most powerful - and the reality.

Her face and hair are beautifully captured in this gentle light but for me the lower part of the picture does not contribute, nor does the garment so I wonder if a head-and-shoulders crop would be even better?

  1. Very good concept and I like your composition - the space and the wide-angle perspective. My only crit (unfortunately impossible to remedy in post processing) is that I would prefer it without all the footprints - it looks like her meditation will be interrupted when a hoard of tourists run over her!

PS. You may be interested to see the "Eve, dune" photo (in my "EVE" folder).

    SPRING IN WINTER

Nice concept and beautifully done. Very interesting misty light.

One little detail: it would be nice to darken the nearest lamp post slightly to bring it into the "middle ground" between the flowers and the trees.

  2. Lovely composition and skin tones. In this orientation you can imagine that the shadow is moving aside as the sun comes up, providing the warmth to dry the wings of the butterfly so it can fly off for the first time, on its amazing adventure.

    Siesta

Thank you Tanya for your kind words and the credit on your lovely photo "Quiet Morning" which I have just been admiring. This photo was inspired mainly by the spontaneous event and similar scenes probably also inspired generations of painters who have heightened our appreciation for the overall design.

  3. I feel honored that my photo "Siesta" was the inspiration for this lovely image - but also rather unworthy as you have achieved a delicacy of lighting, tone and colours that is particular to you, especially seen in your nature pictures.

The overall sinuous curve is the essence of feminine sexuality both subjectively and objectively (ie it's what a woman feels like as well as what an observer appreciates) and is therefore such a powerful and universal semiotic (or iconic symbol) for the sensual "Quiet Morning" lying in bed feeling.

All the elements work perfectly here, the rich colours of the bedspread, the soft drapes, the carved bed post (showing so clearly what shapes inspired the craftsman!) and of course the beautiful body of your friend - I especially like the way you captures the interaction of her heels, worth a picture in itself. Even the buildings outside are IMHO important in showing that this feeling is not some impossible myth but potentially with any of us in a "normal" urban environment if we are open to it.

  4. I think it's one of the joys of teaching beginners that it gives you cause to revisit your "Adams days" and your "Bill Brandt days" and even your "lonesome tree days" - and there's always the potential for a new take on it.

Weathered stone has a special power from the time scale involved in its getting there and this picks up the texture and the awe nicely.

A masterpiece in the classical tradition. Perfect technique.

My only very minor crit is that the uneven skin at her armpit catches the light and this could be shadowed (in PS) to make it less prominent.

Already an original composition before the sabbatier-type post-processing which successfully creates an interesting bronze effect. Nice work.

The photo was used on the cover of this interesting book on acting technique & psychology:
