  1. This is a glimpse of the sanitary conditions at WWII Sachnsenhausen KZ.

My intention was to communicate how the grimness of this place also was

    present at the bathroom...

Views on composition, use of BW most welcome..

Attached you find the original. My intention with squaring was to remove empty space at the edges and frame the people and the crusifix. To me that made it a more balanced composition.

Its also worth mentioning that I only crop for the purpose to change format. This after Ming Thein´s blogpost "why cropping is bad".

Shot freehanded at 1/10, ISO 6400 and aperture of 2.8. These light shows

was marvels and is in many ways satisfied with this outcome. The people i

the down right corner could have been captured in a better way. Ideally I

would have preferred to have had a tripod. Any how, advise on composition

    and format most welcome.

A place for solitude, reflection and tranqulity. Relax and take in the

atmosphere. Shot freehanded at high ISO. Shot at 24mm but think the

square is better than the original 4:3. Comments on composition, croping

    strategy and exposure welcome.

    See your point.

I used this format as it was the "best" given the raw frame. I edited the shots from Berlin after having read Ming Thein´s blogpost "do not crop". I like his possition on croping because it forces us to create as good as possible composition given gear and physical circumstance.

I see that other might have a different standing on such approach, but it explains why the original was edited the way it was. I will add such information the next time I post a picture where a tighter cropping might have created a different composition than the one that was actually shot.

    Kind regards

When in Berlin, take time and visit the Zoo. Here you can meet the elderly

Gorilla Fatou. He was taking various possitions while watching the strange

creatures on the other side of the barrier.

Shot this portrait of my daughter at the Holocaust memorial in Berlin. This

piece of art invites to have fun, even though its background is serious.

Shot with my Nikon 70-200, f2,8 at f5, 1/1000 with my Nikon D700 during a

family hike. Any suggestions on improvements are most welcome.

Shot outdoor on an overcast day with my standard zoom (Nikon 24-70 f2,8)

at 62mm and f4. Find it a good shot, but it might have been even better i

he was standing a meeter or two away from the background hedge, making

it eve more out of focus. Any how, comments welcome.

  2. Thanks for comment and advice. See the point. I thought of cropping it 1:2 format removing 1/3 lowest part of the picture. That said, its not a great composition from the beginning. It was primarily made as a test shot of the lens.

    From testing my new 70-200 f2.8. 200mm free hand, f2,8, 1/640s. Think

this came out quite well. Not the most stunning image of this beautiful bird.

Cropped and remade this old shot highlighting what´s captured my eye in

    the first place. Enjoy
