There's nothing majorly wrong with this; I like the collection of colours, I like the kayaks.
There's nothing that strikes me as terribly unique though: the light is kind of blah, and I'm not sure there's anything about the composition that suggests to me this is anything terribly special.
I'd have done more DOF, but I do like the contrast between the smooth beach in the foreground and the rough texture in the background.
-
Really like this; not sure about the track line in the upper part of the photo. I like it with and without.
-
I can't realistically categorize this other than to say Vancouver.
Wondering what people think; I had a shorter exposure, but prefer this longer one.
-
but the exposure is way off. Could be the scan, could be the original.
-
Although it's probably obvious that two things would improve it:
- all the ducks heads
- a properly aligned horizon
Less obvious might be a slight change in exposure; it seems a bit over-exposed in parts (but maybe there was too much contrast?)
Reminds me of where I live; I'm surrounded by ducks & geese all the time. (Yes, it's true; I'm a turtle and I live in a pond.)
-
But I think in this case the colour is somewhat distracting from the actual subject; I prefer it as a B&W.
-
A misty overcast day, with not much light to spare.
I selected DOF to ensure that the frontmost flower was sharp, as well as the
one on top that's closed. This left the two background flowers slightly out of
focus.
I like this, but I'm interested in other's thoughts. Less DOF? More? Why?
-
I need a new macro lens.

Agreed on the lack of sharp black and whites; contrast is a problem here.
I also think the composition is jumbled; I like the idea of the photo (I often lay down on the ground to get interesting perspectives) but there's not that much interesting about this perspective (tree is perfectly centred, leaves are filling the upper part of the photo completely with no 'white space.'
-
It is an interesting and unusual view. On the whole, I like this.
The only negative comment that springs to mind is that it's not even; following the line in the top concrete portion seems to indicate that it's crooked.
An all too common problem.

Good use of DOF.

I like this a lot, although I'd probably prefer a straight B&W as opposed to the sepia toned version you've got here.
The soft focus on the rock is OK actually; I wonder whether stopping down a couple more would have kept the entire thing sharp?
The gulls look very cool against the rock.

but the light does seem a little flat. You've indicated it was pre-dawn and streetlight lit. I'd be curious to see a well lit photo with more contrast...

the movie, not the city.
There's a scene in a snow covered parking lot. It opens very abstractly shot from above.
This image is a bit busy for my taste (I think I'm looking at it hoping for tranquility) but it's very nice.

You spelt robin wrong.

The veteran in this shot stood there for the entire ceremony, riveted.
I've uploaded four into a folder, and I'm mostly interested in which one
people think is best. I'm torn between this one, and one taken with my
200mm which doesn't have their full bodies.
Any comments would be appreciated.

I'd agree with Greg. It's nice, but the composition doesn't really do it for me. I think the splash of light doesn't really create a focal point, and this winds up being an image without one.
When last I was at Rainier, I couldn't see the mountain at all so the light is particularly remarkable in that respect.

I like this, and the only 'negative' comment would be that the surfboards are so white they wind up getting washed out a little. Some more tonal variety here might have been better. Obviously beyond your control I imagine...
-
Indeed, I agree on the shadow. It's too dark, but this is in part due to the size & quality of the JPG file. There's actually another swingset there, but it's not visible at all in this image.
I still would have prefered to take the shot when the sun was a little higher in the sky (maybe an hour earlier) when the shadow wouldn't have been quite so dense.
I'm also trying to figure out why I didn't take this in black and white (as well.) D'oh!
-
I thought good, and was the main reason I took the photo. Without it, this
degenerates into a pretty dull photo of an abandoned park.
Thoughts?
-
I can think of nothing else to say.

although this particular background overwhelms the foreground in my opinion. It's stunning gothic architecture, and I'm not sure which I'm supposed to be looking at.
It's a nice shot though. You've captured a good moment of the band, and the setting is a cool one. I suppose I personally would probably have moved in closer with a wider lens
