Thanks Al. You are one of the reasons I tune in here. It's good to talk about other related aspects of photography and creativity that are not Leica specific.
I sometimes thought weed helped my creativity but when all was said and done, I did not like the way I felt afterward. I've spent many hours printing with a good supply of beer available. It is interesting how we all react differently to drugs and alcohol.

Or do you react? When composing your shot, especially in fluid
situations, how aware are you of your composition? Or does
composition become intuitive then?
I've read that baseball players rarely "see" the ball actually make
contact with the bat.

No doubt Anita has been scared away or repulsed by some (not all) of the responses to her question. Whats the matter with you guys anyway?
How many of you bought into the Leica myth without any previous knowledge?
-
"Absolutely. And the bigger the camera the better. Put's people on notice I'm on the job. So there..."
Brad--I did not see one of these: :0) Are you serious?
-
Mitch-
You read the whole thing though didn't you?
-
Bill-
Interesting rumor regarding HCB. Where did you read that? Nothing surprises me anymore.

Buying an M6ttl in 1999. This was my only experience to date with Leica. Two months later, I met an M3. I knew immediatly that I would sell my ttl. The owner of that M3 is now my wife and I am a contented user of a very nice IIIf and collapsible Summicron. As much as I like the M3 I prefer the size of the IIIf (squinty finder and all)

One of my favorites is his portrait of Alexander Calder. The building structure suggests one of Calder's mobiles. It is interesting to compare this with Kertesz' portrait of Calder from around 1926.

Same, Ed and Sandy both. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with them.

Why do you guys care so much if someone is a pro or not?
Would it validate things if her equipment had the crap beaten of it?
-
John-
Yes indeed, I am interested to hear your impressions after you compare the two lenses. I've heard nothing but good things about John Van Stelton and have talked to him myself. My reason for asking about Focal Point's work specifically in my post is that if I decide to have this done, that is where I'm sending my Summicron.
I look forward to your next post.

Paul-
That one looks like a winner. Enjoy it.

Paul-
Understood. The fact remains that I am not currently out any money. Spend $250 on a "perfect" original or $250 on mine. Either way a 50 plus year old lens might do well with a cleaning and lube job.

After finding one small discussion in the archives on this topic,
I'm asking.
The coating on this lens is pretty chewed up, it is however only in
the coating, not the glass. As I understand it, this lens is single
coated from the factory. John at Focal Point does a single coating
of magnesium fluoride and Arax does a multi-coating.
Does anyone have any experience with a change in lens signature,
particularly with the Focal Point work? My guess is that a new
single coating would restore the lens rather closely to factory spec
and multi-coating may show a bit of a contrast increase.
Would anyone care to share their experience?
Many thanks.

Thanks for posting some images Russ. I agree about the dodging...it works on this one. Surreal is the word that had come to mind.
Your series of your brother deserves printed publication. You have a good eye.

Its good to see you going for it. Its a tough business no doubt. Best of luck. I'm in Pasadena so...

I really like both shots Anthony. Obviously the XP2 is C-41, but you must be doing the scanning and photoshop. Both looked duotoned to me. How about some info regarding your technique?
-
Huw--many thanks indeed. I always look forward to your posts.

I should have mentioned that the camera was CLA'd last June and until recently the 1/5 setting worked. All other speeds are accurate. Even 1/5 sounds perfect when it actually fires on that speed.
-
With all the talk of ZI's and digital M's this may seem arcane.
The 1/5 second setting on my IIIf is intermittent. If the speed
works on the first firing, it will fire at 1/25 on subsequent
firings. Most of the time the shutter sounds like it is firing at
1/25 and will not engage at 1/5. I can set an intermediate speed
between 1/2 and 1/5, but as I say, the slow speed dial will not
generally engage the 1/5 setting and the shutter just fires at
1/25.
Is this a simple fix?
Many thanks all.
