I like the subject and composition. It does seem to me that the contrast is a bit 'over the top'. I might be wrong, but the wrinkles in the man's face look more like 'deep cracks' to me.

Also, in response to Mike, I don't find the contrast overblown at all. Indeed, the image displays a rather comprehensive tonal range, including very dark shadows and very bright highlights.
