Got One!

every 20 seconds. He was quite the fisherman. I think this looks best

when viewd larger. Thanks.

You are right, Walter, a beauty, good catch!

Walter, this is very nice. I like the nice natural setting. That water must have really been moving to get that great motion in the water yet still stop the action on the heron.

He got the fish and you got the Great Blue Heron on film. The composition, sharpness and detail are all exquisite while the color "palette" looks as if were arranged just for this image. I especially like the symmetry of the composition and the way the Blue Heron and the blue stream seem to flow together almost as one in relief against the rocky area the upper third of the frame.--jim

Nicely cropped, Walter. Movement on the right and stillness on the left. Well-balanced and nice color. And you are right, it definitely looks better larger - so you have a 80 X 100 hanging in your study?

I like the impression of the moving water here. I can almost hear it. By my reckoning the 300mm lens is about equivalent to a 150mm in 35mm-speak. How close did you manage to get? Do you find the Pentax + 300mm lens useful for weight training? :-)

Hi Colin. Actually, I got pretty close to this guy, he was so busy stuffing himself with all those minnows I don't think he was concerned about me at all. The 300 is not too bad as far as MF lenses go, much lighter than the 400! This particular shoot I wasn't carrying the camera; I left it in the car. When I saw this fellow I ran back, got the body, lens, and tripod, and he was still gorging himself.
