Giangiorgio Crisponi 477 Posted April 24, 2022 Pelican - (Pelecanus onocrotalus) - I photographed this pelican (Pelecanus onocrotalus) in flight against a background of a flowering Tamarisk or Salt cedar - (Tamarix ramosissima). This is the only one pelican present in Sardinia. 10 years ago a group of pelicans took the wrong migration route and stopped for a few weeks in Sardinia, where they are not present, and then they left, only this specimen remained and it is difficult to photograph it. Nikon D500, f / 8, 1/1000 sec, ISO 100 Thanks for your comments Link to comment

michaellinder 16,613 Posted April 25, 2022 Giangiorgio, thanks for the narrative on this spectacular bird. Taken together with the image, it gives the pelican a significant role in the overall bird population of Sardinia. Its wingspan is dramatic. The lighting probably is responsible for this. - - My best always, michael - - -Ciao! Link to comment

Giangiorgio Crisponi 477 Posted April 25, 2022 Thank you so much Michael for your much appreciated comment. You're right, the wing span is impressive, The common white pelican features one of the largest wing spans among birds, measuring 226 to 360 centimeters (7.5-11.10 inches). ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
