Giangiorgio Crisponi 498 Posted April 12, 2022 Common Starling - (Sturnus vulgaris) - I photographed this flock of starlings. backlit at sunset. while looking for a place to rest for the night, in the reeds of the lagoon. These starlings form flocks of thousands of individuals that perform fascinating hovering in the air. Nikon D850, Sigma Sport 150-600mm, f / 6,3, 1/2000 sec, ISO 600. vincentoiseau 83 Posted April 13, 2022 Hi Giangiorgio, a spectacular backlit in flight-capture of these starlings, filling the frame beautifully. I like the almost monochrome feel of this image. Wonderful work! Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment

michaellinder 16,613 Posted April 14, 2022 Giangiorgio, the image motivated me to wonder what compelled such a large number of starlings to take to the air. Of course the explanation might be migration patterns. I totally agree that the backlighting is superb, resulting in the highlighting of the birds' wing feathers only. BTW, the somewhat subdued warm tones provide a finishing touch. - - My best always, michael - - - Ciao! Link to comment

smooth 285 Posted April 15, 2022 Giangiorgio, an absolutely stunning photo i.e. when to use backlit as an effect. I will put this image in my favourite folder as a source for inspiration. Best regards, Arthur Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 303 Posted April 15, 2022 Another fascinating shot, this time in backlight and in sepia tone if my eyes don't fool me! I would consider a tiny bottom crop in order to avoid the birds at the bottom which are out of focus or motion blurred if I may say, Giangiorgio! Complimenti, amico mio! Ciao! PDE Link to comment
