Bumblebee - (Bombus terrestris) -

I photographed this bumblebee approaching a Nasturtium flower in the balcony of my house, with Nikon D 500, Sigma 150-600 Sport, f / 6.3, 1 / 3200sec, ISO 1400. Thanks for your comments

What a great capture. I thought this was with a macro set up. The Sigma 150-600. is what you used. Great detail and color. I like the pollen on the leg too. Thank you for sharing.

H I Giangiorgio, that Sigma 150-600 Sport is a very impressive lens! I'd be interested in knowing what focal length you used for this shot, whether it's cropped, and what the close-focus distance is for this lens. ciao, Bill

Grazie mille Pierre, this bumblebee was visiting all the flowers of this nasturtium plant in my balcony and I focused on this flower that stood out sharply waiting for the appearance of the bumblebee, a few moments and here is the result , ciao Giangiorgio

Bill, thank you very much for your interesting comment, I used the maximum focal length, at a distance of about 4 meters from the flower. I did only a slight crop to eliminate some leaves on the edge. The minimum focusing distance of the Sigma 150-600 F / 5-6.3 is 2.8 meters, inadequate at 150 millimeters, but definitely interesting at greater focal lengths, because it allows respectable magnifications. At 600mm, the reproduction ratio is approximately 1: 5

Giangiorgi, to begin, congratulations for elucidating "The Secrets of Bees" which I believe to be a book title. It seems to me that the bumblebee has reduced its speed and is taking careful aim at the prize - the flower's nectar. Otherwise, I find the technical aspects of the image to be spot on - especially the color and lighting. - -My best always, michael- - -Ciao! - - - - - - - - By the way, what focal length did you use?

Hi Giangiorgio,

my apologies for coming late to this amazing photo. Apart from your technical skills with the Sigma (that should be obvious to anyone by now), it shows your talent for presenting the beauty of nature and its creatures and your love of nature. Composition and colors are stunning! Thank you for this inspiring capture! Kind regards, Vincent
