A natural abstract made in 2008 with a Canon Powershot A-75 compact digital camera of an oak leaf covered in mud. I remember discovering the close-up capabilities of a compact digital camera, which allow you to shoot close-ups manually, which I wasn't used to at all with the (analogue) SLR's I had been shooting with until then. I chose to edit this image to a square format, as it suited the subject well in my opinion. Your comments are very welcome.

Marvelous macro abstract, Vincent! Nature is beautiful in all phases! Harmonious composition, light, color, textures, details ... I suppose it's water plus ice (?). Well done, Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

A very nice and very sharp image of this leaf, mud is not repulsive in photography. Even today when I go out I always keep the compact camera canon ixus at hand, the macros made with this camera have a great depth of field and good definition, I prefer it to photos taken with a mobile phone, ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Giangiorgio,

thank you very much for your friendly and relevant comments! It's the close-up possibilities of a compact camera that make it stand out in ease of use and results and this photo clearly shows that. Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent, this one immediately caught my eye! Two reasons: 1. I really like the composition & also the detail. Very compelling. 2. At first glance at the image & I thought you had applied the digital 'Glad Wrap' filter on it. Then when I looked more closely I realized that this was not the case - the effects of that filter are much less subtle than the nice effect you have achieved here!

Well done. -Aina

Hi Aina,

thank you very much for your comprenhensive and friendly comments! I'm glad you like the composition and detail of the photo. No filters such as the one you mention have been applied, but the image has been edited slightly. Kind regards, Vincent

very lovely picture. I don't think you needed to pump it up so high, in terms of sharpness and saturation.

Hi Jamie,

thanks for your friendly comment! Muddy leaves are not for everybody. I did process it of course, but the sharpness comes mostly from the little lens on this compact camera; when focused correctly, it produced very sharp photos. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi, Vincent.

Often the photographer/artist's eye is able to catch the details invisible to others. Old bronze bas-relief immediately popped up in my mind, when I just looked at this photograph. If you did not give a description I could mistakenly think it is a metal (unless if I started meticulously explore the image). That red dot on the right bottom would not allow deceiving my brain, I think. Very cool shot for point and shoot camera. Of course, not the camera makes the photo, but a person behind the glass! My best regards, Evgeny

Hi Evgeny,

thanks again for a very valuable set of comments! The comparison to an old bronze bas-relief shows again the similarity of our minsdets when looking at scenes; even though you are a great landscape specialist and have a totally different style from mine, if I even have one. I made use here of the extra DoF a point and shoot offered when I didn't have the money to buy a 'serious' camera. Kind regards, Vincent
