tai 3 Posted March 27, 2020 Marvelous picture, Jack! I guess this is your reflection! Character, title and wonderful fairy-tale frame make an allusion to Tolkien! Delight! Bravo! Take care and be healthy! Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment

Wayne Sadler 609 Posted March 27, 2020 So appropriate and beautiful art. I feel the isolation, apprehension even compassion in this image. Link to comment
michaellinder 16,613 Posted March 27, 2020 Gandalf, I certainly hope that Shadowfax is having the time of his life in a barn filled with buckets of oats for him to munch on and bales of hay for restful sleep. I love how this image is divided into sections by the verticals, especially the two that frame your reflection. I'm also glad that you didn't forget to include several subtle diagonals as well. Following Laurent's lead, this is yet another favorite. Link to comment
bruckner 539 Posted March 27, 2020 Like the symmetry and post processing, well seen and presented. Link to comment
DGorinstein 20 Posted March 28, 2020 Hello dearest friend Jack: There are very few self-portraits of you. Portrait or not, this is a Masterpiece, photography at its cusp. It transmits and reflects your complexity and dexterity to stop time. It is truly an amazing photograph. Each and every other element plays a vital role in catching you passing by. One of the most complex, revealing, yet concealing images I have seen in a loooooon g time. Truly UNIQUE. Thank you, Sir, for regailing us with such inspirational graphic, striking, powerful.....I could go on and on, only to end up destroying the value and content of this unique portrait.......all I have to add is an enormous THANKS, all else would be mute. "We must find time to stop and thank the people who make a difference in our lives" - John F. Kennedy. All my best. DG Link to comment
vincentoiseau 83 Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Jack, what a clever and meaningful self portrait you have uploaded! You have photographed your reflection, but I think you look into the mirror to create the effect of someone passing by a dirty window and looking into a room. The objects in the foreground are have no significance other than forming layers of material framing the window (mirror) on both sides. The dirt on the mirror makes your image vague, which may mean something ominous. Gandalf has conjured up another reality, in which he himself is at the center. Will this Gandalf succeed in becoming Gandalf the White? Kind regards, Vincent Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 498 Posted March 29, 2020 I join what others have said with beautiful comments. Truly a wonderful self-portrait, a masterpiece, ciao Giangiorgio Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted March 29, 2020 Franz, Laurent, Vlad, Tatiana, Patrick, Wayne, Michael, George, Daniel, Vincent, Giangiorgio - A sincere thanks to each of you and an assurance that Gandalf the Grey is still travelling on his beloved Shadowfax, if only through the landscape of his mind for now. Lots of pictures to work on as I stay sequestered in my castle. Stay well, regards, Jack Link to comment

GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted August 23, 2020 Masterpiece ! and yes you are the star. You quick mind and eye create captures that will live on in our minds. The title was perfect, the many real life textures and processing captivate the senses ! Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted August 23, 2020 Gail, thanks for the nice comments on this picture and the others. I don't post on PN any longer having moved my stall to Instagram. Instagram ain't that great either but there are a lot of ex-PNers and it's a little community of sort. It's painful to see what has happened to this once great site. PN used to be head and shoulders above the competition and now it's just a shadow of itself. Link to comment
hansdans 0 Posted June 19, 2021 Hi Jack! That is one of the most personal "selfies" I have seen for a long time - and a Good one, including "the Gandalf the Grey" - reminding us all of the b&w world, which You have mastered so well here. best, Hannu Link to comment
DGorinstein 20 Posted June 28, 2021 Wow!! What a superb and concealed way to take a spontaneous self-portrait, enhanced and adorned by your very personal background/environment. I knew it was you, and I was looking for James Bond's concealed camera, capturing a unique expression. "Thanks, Sir; all else is mute." - William Shakespeare. The sepia treatment by no means goes unnoticed to complete a complex and very interesting Photograph (again, capital P). Stay well, Tomodachi Sama. Kiotsukete Kudasai. Domo Arigatogosaimashita. trisha jean-angela 5 Posted February 23 A unique take on a self-portrait Jack, but I would expect nothing less from you! I have missed your mug. Thank you for sharing. 🙂 I haven't been here in 8 years and a lot has changed around here - not just at PN but my own corner of the universe as well. I hope you come back someday and give us all that unique pleasure of a glimpse into your world... Link to comment
