Flamingos in wedding parade. (Phoenicopterus ruber)

These flamingos (Phoenicopterus ruber) photographed immediately after sunset are performing the wedding dance, this is the phase in which all together stretch out with the chest out and the neck well extended, followed by many other typical figures, Nikon D 300s, Sigma supertele 300 -800mm, f / 5.6, 1/1600 sec, ISO 200. Thanks for your comment

Ah, Giangiorgio, delightful photo! I do not have enough words! Beautiful flamingo tradition and magnificent wedding dances! Google explained they can dance and enjoy in this way for about two months. Very positive birds! Maybe they also sing? Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana

That's just Tatiana, until spring they will continue to dance for hours neglecting lunch, more than singing they have a constant chatter, thanks for your interest and for the nice comment

Hi Giangiorgio,

very nice presentation and capture of this elegant event, one of the many wonders of the avian world. I like the colors, the reflections and the DoF. Very well done! Kind regards, Vincent

Giangiorgio, although I've seen this dance previously in one of BBC Earth's series, this is the first still I've been privileged to view. It immediately raised a question. Does the head position vary with the sex of the flamingos? My guess is that only the males point their heads to the sky since, as seems common in the animal world, males are more abundant than females and have to compete to mate with one (or more, as the case may be). You camera settings no doubt account for the soft background which is the perfect choice. The sole flamingo in that area lacks detail and saturation, which contrasts so well with its companions in the foreground. Finally, the overall color palette is nothing short of spectacular. - - My best always, michael - - - Ciao!

Thank you Michael for your interesting comments on the behavior of these flamingos. This wedding dance that includes from a few dozen to hundreds of flamingos lasts for several months until spring when nesting begins. The males and females of flamingos are similar to each other and cannot be distinguished. This dance is used for the choice and training of the couple who will remain stable throughout the reproductive period and the raising of the chicks. I'm glad you liked them

Extraordinary capture of the birds ritual from closer distance so that's all more clear what they are doing! I would have cloned out the white bird on the rear right because it has no respect for the ritual! Compolimenti, mio caro amico! PDE
