Lavender

A photo of what I think is 'Munstead' lavender. Shot on a tripod with a Super Macro Takumar 50 mm 4.0 lens.

A photo I shot in my mother's garden about ten years ago. I wanted to make optimal use of the combination of the lens, a Takumar super macro 50 mm 4.0, and the camera, an Olympus E-520. The DoF is very shallow, but I like the photgraphic effect. Your comments are very welcome.

Lovely colors, light and composition, Vincent. Wonderful having all those flowers in the background slowly fading away the further back they go. Makes for a most impressive background. Like the near vertical composition. The DoF captures all the important parts of the flower. The field of view gives a wonderful perspective on the great beauty as seen by the cameras eye. An excellent capture with a vision towards wonderful colors and a powerful presentation. Best regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,

thank you for your very quick and friendly response to this photo! As you more or less affirmed in your comments, I wanted to have a smooth vertically based yet smooth background, focusing on the color and perspective of the flowers. Kind regards, Vincent

Hi Tatiana,

thanks for your very fine and appropriate comments! The impression you mention matches both the moment that I shot the photo and the aroma of the flowers was very strong indeed; there was hardly any wind, so I was almost dazed by the sweet scent around me. Maybe it even make me take in the photo in the first place. Best wishes for the coming year! Kind regards, Vincent

Vincent, first and foremost, a very Happy New Year! There's not much I can add to the very astute comments already provided, but I'll try. I find the image dreamlike, both in appearance and in atmosphere. Clearly your use of a wide open aperture helped to create this element. The colors coordinate well with each other, and I really like their low saturation levels. To me, this is another elements that adds to the image's atmosphere and appearance. Quite honestly, I always look forward to viewing your photographs of nature; aside from your expertise with a camera, your artistic sensibility always makes me want to visit the locations where you shot them. - - My best always, michael

Hi Vincent, this photo will also be simple, but it has all the credentials for a beautiful photo, and I also like it very much.

The subject is well isolated from the rest, it is not targeted as with a rifle, but well positioned in the frame.

The colors are two and very well represented, the dof is a scream.

Very nice the angle of the flowers all a little outward, this I think is the best feature of this photo, it is difficult to find such a well positioned subject.

You did a great job!

Best wishes for a happy new year, we hope for a 2020 full of light, in all aspects!

Best regards, Max

Hi Michael,

you are quite right; first and foremost a happy New Year to you also! It's so nice to read how you perceive my nature photos, I feel honored. It's about the feeling you have about what you photograph that makes the difference, not merely gear or skill level, although both of these can have great impact on the outcome. Thanks, Michael! Kind regards, Vincent

As I mentioned on another occasion, you do well to pull these hidden photos out of the drawer, the fact that you have chosen it among many means that it has awakened you pleasant memories and you have published it regardless of the technical quality, continue to propose us others beautiful images in the next year, ciao Giangiorgio

Hi Giangiorgio,

although this particular photo isn't as old (I shot it in 2010), I agree with you about choosing photos because they awaken pleasant memories. That's definitely a reason to upload some of them. Thanks for your nice comments and your continued support, I will keep on posting! Kind regards, Vincent
