Giangiorgio Crisponi 475 Posted November 6, 2019 This pelican ( Pelecanus onocrotalus) photographed during take-off is the only pelican in Sardinia. Years ago a group of pelicans had the wrong migration route and they stopped in Sardinia for a few weeks where they are not present and then left, only one remained and it is difficult to photograph it. Nikon D500, f / 7.1, 1/2000 sec, ISO 100. Thanks for your comments Link to comment
tai 3 Posted November 6, 2019 A beautiful bird remarkably captured, Giangiorgio! Wonderful composition, light, pose, colors ... It is hard to imagine such a handsome bird alone. I guess it will certainly find a couple. Bravo! Sincerely, Tatiana Link to comment

michaellinder 16,612 Posted November 6, 2019 In my area, Giangiorgio, pelicans also abound, albeit a different variety ( based on color). I never tire of watching them, given their fascinating behavior patterns, especially feeding their young. Your narrative, which is educational as always, mentions that this bird is about to take flight. If not for that information, given how the bird still is positioned on a treetop, a viewer possibly may think that the bird simply is stretching. One of my photographic biases leans toward images with ambiguous stories, even to the slightest degree - like this one. One last observation . . . Due to the detail and lighting, the pelican's coloration blends beautifully with the tree's. - - My best always, michael Link to comment

Giangiorgio Crisponi 475 Posted November 6, 2019 I thank you Michael for your acute observations, in fact the pose of the pelican may suggest different interpretations to the observer, the photos in succession show that in reality it has flown away Link to comment
frigo 4,155 Posted November 8, 2019 Giangiorgio...As always, great telephoto shot of the big bird timed so well to show a perfect symmetry. When I viewed the thumbnail,I immediately associated the stance with that of the Karate Kid....ready to bounce!Salutations-Laurent Link to comment
Giangiorgio Crisponi 475 Posted November 8, 2019 Dear Laurent, thank you for your nice comment, I went to the internet to see the images of Karate Kid that recall the position of the pelican, very similar Link to comment

DGorinstein 20 Posted January 12, 2020 One of a kind! Exceptional capture of a "perfect" symmetry and equilibrium. This image is worthy of a Coat of Arms, a symbolic emblem of perfect and subtle, smooth and silent flight, barely caressing the surface of even the roughest of waters. Magnificent DOF, allowing the viewer to fully "savor" this magnificent creature, so often photographed, but seldom seen in this display, quite unique. Congratulations. DG Link to comment
