A delightful array of light shapes and shadow. I too was going to suggest the crop at the bottom, but having tried it (by scrolling the image down on my screen)  I think I prefer the original.

Dear Jon, Massimo, Alf and Bela,

Thank you for your generous comments.  I did play around with the formatting, but decided that the negative area below the stairwayhad some positive effect and sort of suggested a stairway not attached to the ground.  The photo is a digital copy of the darkroom print I made on B&W paper using a 35mm color slide in my enlarger. The black is actually the white painted steel of a reservoir for liquid materials.  A reversal print from a so-called reversal film.

This is very nicely caught, Arthur. I'm not sure exactly where it is or its context, which works for me, but that very subtle black vertical line towards the top right makes me think even more. It's just suspended in endless space. And BTW, don't crop the bottom as has been suggested since that would eliminate part of the mystery.
