Exploring the Salton Sea in California, there was once a dock here.

Taken in July 2011, still 110 Fahrenheit at 8 p.m.

Hello, This image has a rather eerie atmosphere about it. I mean that in a complimentary way. Well shot and composed with the light coming from the right. Real nice.

Sincerely,

Holger

Greg, I don't see this image as eerie at all. In fact, I find it to be quite pleasant. I love the geometry in the shot and how the perspective leads directly into the pleasant pink tones of the background.

Very nicely composed and capture photo. Keep up the great work! 6/7.

All the best,

Stan.

What I like about this image is the ethreal mystical quality that emanates from the bleached jetty uprights and the barely discernable horizon with the warm glow of colour.

Sincere Compliments!

I like this soft light and peaceful scene revealed from this image. One alternative composition could be  making this poles/line be diagonal.

Thanks, everyone. This image's been fairly popular, probably because of its surreal softness (summer haze) and muted colors (sunset palette).

The Salton Sea is a photographer's playground, but sadly, they're slowly cleaning it up and removing many of its most interesting relics, like the Sunken City's old cars and trailers and the North Beach Motel (now completely gone). Word is that they're building geothermal and/or solar collector farms there and need the space.

So if you plan on shooting it one day ..........  better move fast!

Greg, thank you for your comments about my boulders, which did not attract much other photographers. I entered you site, and saw that this picture of you also has a lot of geometry. Well done too. I like the pictures with not much sky at all, especially when the sky offers nothing more. Greetings. Daniel B.

Hey Greg,

I'm only a few years late commenting, but I couldn't resist - this is great.

Congratulations,

Peter.

Thanks Pete!  I haven't visited this site as often as I wish (and posted even less), but appreciate the feedback.  I've take many shots at the Salton Sea and this one's gotten the most feedback (most all good). Maybe I'll make a metal print of it, too.
