bosshogg 4 Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks for the thoughts. You are right that it is not a true sepia. I've been experimenting with some freeware PS plugins, and this was the result. It basically was a sepia conversion, but I then tweaked some of the saturations and it evolved into the more greenish tone. I have some color deficiencies so it may not be greenish to you, but it looked that way to me. And I agree that even the non-metallic surfaces kind of take on that metallic appearance. bosshogg 4 Posted March 15, 2008 I don't know that I really seek out these places as they seem to find me! Nevertheless, I don't think I can take too much credit, as these things are so abundant that anyone can find them. Sort of like shooting ducks in a pond. The trick is to find an appreciative audience. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 15, 2008 Thanks to you for viewing and commenting. Well, I might have engaged in a bit of hyperbole in my description of the stools, but I did it in the interest of keeping Doug out of trouble. Link to comment
alberta_pizzolato 21 Posted March 16, 2008 Non-silver silver is one of my favorite photo characteristics and you've done such an excellent job here, David. 3D is also at the top of my favs list and your POV just sucks me straight away down the length of the bar and out the window. But now before taking inventory of all the thousand objects and artifacts along the way. I especially like the bills that hang like something organic from the ceiling. Good eye, great execution. laurent_jaussi 0 Posted March 16, 2008 The sepia BW seems more smoothly organised, with the color version you have color splashes here and there to attract the attention (as often with color images)...but the colors are distributed allowing the eyes to hope from one area to the others....I have a slight preference for the BW sepia though...it will take you hours to get all those dollars if you return overnight...:-) Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 16, 2008 At least stop for a beer before being sucked out that window. LOL Thanks for the view and comment. I'm honored. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 16, 2008 Good to hear from you. As colorful a subject as this is, the minute I desaturated it, I knew it needed to be in a non color form. Glad you found it worthy. Link to comment
ldavidson 4 Posted March 17, 2008 The sepia makes me think of times past, the fifties, or maybe the forties. This is wonderful, I love it. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 17, 2008 Thanks. This is definitely a place with more past than future. Link to comment
jbm 0 Posted March 18, 2008 David, great shot. And I like the tone which is sepia but almost approaches the color of the original greenback. Why not try it that way, with a green tone? Except it might be a little too pop arty. This makes me think I should spend some time documenting the more interesting watering holes here in NYC before I move this June, except I usually end up too blasted to operate a camera with any dexterity. bosshogg 4 Posted March 18, 2008 Thanks. I "played" with this quite a bit as is my wont, and this was about the best of the bunch. Link to comment
jeffl7 0 Posted March 18, 2008 Green, sepia, or whatever, this is an interesting capture. I actually like the color version because the little bits of color scattered here and there amidst the grime give a real feel for these joints. Dirt meets neon. Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 19, 2008 Thanks. Initially I saw this as being a color image, but I prefer the grittier tone I gave it. Link to comment
aramat57 3 Posted March 21, 2008 We went through Oatman on our Arizona trip a few years ago. Remarkable place. I remember this bar, didn't have a drink there, though. I think we had a sandwich in the cafe part upstairs if I remember correctly. This is a fabulous color treatment which makes this seem hyper-real. Great job! (And I'm glad I didn't sit on the barstools, lol) Best regards, Tammy Link to comment
bosshogg 4 Posted March 21, 2008 Yeah, there was a lot of history in this place for sure. It was a pleasant place to visit and I'm glad it brought back memories for you. Link to comment
BelaMolnar 2 Posted April 4, 2008 Ohh boy..! What a bar. I like the old photo look, the sepia treatment, better, them a colour version. Fantastic capture David, and you had a tremendous responds to this image. The only question I have, where is the people..?? The composition, the exposure the perspective is just perfect. Bravo.
