Trust me, don't even bother providing them with their own food - doesn't work! We put out peanuts, corn, everything squirrels are supposed to like and they did like it all. Within half an hour, they had totally taken all of "their" food and hidden it, then came back to devour all the birdseed. It's a no-win situation! Oh, and by the way, I've even seen a squirrel EAT A BIRD!!!!!!!!

You can't join this discussion. Your fine photographs of this species have proven that you just have too much love for them. In fact, you might even be a spy for them, trying to probe the intentions of us "True Believers" of the Devil Beast's iniquity. You say you have seen one eat a bird? Well let me tell you something, young lady; I saw a Flying Devil Monster ( Glaucomys sabrinus) acrtually search out and alight upon on an unsuspecting but enebriated gentleman (Hic!) and suck the blood out of him in two minutes flat! What'ya think of that!

And Kathy, Chris is not at all bloodthirsty. No, not all. He is displaying a calm and purely rational response to the obvious threat that these hideous monsters truly represent.

Welcome to the club Sondra. Regards.

I wished no ill will upon these creatures. They brought the fight to my home, and they picked the wrong guy.

Did you see this? They're coming folks. All of them. The question is, will YOU be ready?

Look at the teeth! Look at the BONES!!! To paraphrase: that Devil Monster from Hell is dynamite! They're teaming up with the rabbits....

Yes indeed Kathy, as Mr. Appoldt has pointed out, THEY are coming...and they're coming for us!

"...It's very big -- it's nearly the size of a dog," said Joan Smith, whose son Jeff owns one of the plots under attack...

"...It's eating everything, all the vegetables," she told Reuters. "They are trying to shoot it. They go along hoping to catch it but I think it's too crafty."

Sounds familar, no? I hate to think that the above excerpt is referring to the Easter Bunny, but one never knows for sure. I'm trying my best to raise the alarm on this mauling menace of mankind. Heaven help us all!

Walter- This is too funny :) They keep eating thousands of flower bulbs in my yard. I plant them, they eat them :) They seem to love yellow flowers :) I had one that when I entered my back yard he/she (not sure which) would chew up the outside of an old green walnut skin & spit it down on top of me where ever I was :) I haven't seen him for a while, I think the local roving cat got him! :)

My husband calls them "tree rats". The only time I find them entertaining is the babies is the Spring, chase each other around our very large Oak tree. Otherwise, I like the cat with the gun:)

Join the club Jayme, membership is free. I think that I'm going to hire Mr Appoldt's feline mercenaries to "sweep" my yard. Should be a joyful massacre! Regards.

Thanks Walter- My son, whom is a police office, took a BB gun off a youngster that looks like a real hand gun. Kind of scary. I feel sure he would donate this to Mr Appoldt's feline mercenaries :) LOL

Thank you Dave, this is indeed one of my better attempts on this site. Looking back and re-reading all of the above comments brought back some fine memories of a better time on the o'l PhotoNet. Now, many of the above posters (friends of mine) have left this site for other venues. Some, sadly, did not have a choice in the matter. I really do not know why I stick around here; I must be nuts. Regards.

Yes Maam..that's one frightening critter you have up in those trees! "Red" is very apt because he probably sucked the blood out of anything living nearby. What is really terrible about these Devil Dogs is that there is no season that escapes their ravaging. I just took a look out the window at one of my bird feeders. It has (or, rather had) a steel squirrel baffle attached to it. It's been torn off and thrown on the ground! Where do these Pups of Satan get their strength? I'm going to start eating acorns. Regards.

It's been a while since anybody commented on this one but I have to say, I come here every now and then to read the thread and get a good laugh...of course I know you are completely serious. Has there been any strides in the Holy Crusade since the last posting?

Well let me tell you Young Lady that this is no laughing matter! No indeed. Sure, it's been quiet as of late, but that is just because we are presently in the eye of the storm. The Devil Rats are regrouping, building-up their numbers and strength for an all-out war against all good God-fearing people (I've determined this by reading it in the entrails of one that I caught ALIVE!) .  Anyone with an ounce of perception can see in those beady black orbs of sin the malevolent machinations of the Evil One's plans. The moment we let our guard down they will pounce, and pounce with a fearful ferocity that defies all description. Stay alert! I BEG OF YOU! Stay alert!

Forgive my levity, I have yet to see the these little monsters at their evil work, only hopping around eachother and eating the acorns of the oaks in my back yard. I may have contributed to the cause without knowing it though...via the front tires of my rav4 and some brain matter left in the treads. I hope this puts me back into your good graces. I am sure my Golden Retriever will put his jaws to work as well, once he comes home. We will all certainly be more vigilant in the future, now that this beasts evil deeds have been exposed!

They have no brains; what appears as such is a distillate of pure evil.  I'm surprised the tires survived.  Keep up the good work, Nicole, I'm counting on you! Regards.
