jose_merino
i shot my first roll.. my photographic skills are still bad, but at least the pictures look better. The camera ended up with a lot of marks, so i picked one of the lens cleaning cloths and tried cleaning the body using a little bit of the lens cleaning solution. The finger prints went away, but now you can tell where the body was cleaned (more opaque) and where it wasn't. How can i clean this thing so it looks just like when i bought it ? thx J. Rob F.
Stop cleaning it so much, and especially, don't rub hard. The chrome, black or silver, has a tendency to burnish from rubbing.
alan_wilder1
I used to simply rub the area of concern with my bare thumb to even out the appearance with the rest of the body followed by a thorough wipedown with a micro-fiber lens cleaning cloth to remove excess oils. al_kaplan1
Find something else to worry about. The mark of a photographer is having cameras that look like they were used as cameras. Better to spend your time perfecting your photographic skill than polishing your cameras.

jose_merino
AL, pls refrain from responding next time and spare me the photographer's this and that..the camera looked dirty so i tried to clean it, big deal. If my questions seems silly to you, then don't look. I believ i have the right to spend time cleaning the camera and not take pictures if i please. apologies to the rest
j m shaw
just use it and if it gets dirty, good that means you are taking lots of pics:)
preston_merchant
Your camera has fingerprints on it and you think this is a problem?
jake_tauber
Perhaps you should wear white gloves while polishing your photographic skills and then you can "wax poetic" about your pictures.
preston_merchant
At least Mr. Merino has found the right forum!
hadji_singh
I prevent fingerprints by always wearing my Hermes Baby Seal Skin gloves when handling my Leica.

jordi_rosales
- José Merino asks hier a simple practical question and all he gets is moral sentences, irony and jokes. This is a shame. -

SolaresLarrave
Come on, you people... weren't you ever there, wondering about these things, when you were younger and easily scared? Or is that fondling Leica gear just stuffed your shirts and not your people skills?
Jose, just get a microfiber cloth. Not the ones for eyeglasses, because they're soaked in some solution that's good only for that kind of glass, not for camera glass. I carry a couple in my bag not because of fingerprints (which are easily cleaned) but dust or grease or simply whatever specs may land on the VF or RF windows. peter_white2
sandpaper If that doesn't work, a 12" bastard file should do it. All kidding aside, the only place you should be concerned about fingerprints would be the viewfinder windows, and of course your lenses. Kodak lens cleaning fluid works just fine. ________1
"How can i clean this thing so it looks just like when i bought it?" Best to just leave it in a display case, enjoy a cigar and brandy while thinking about all the great photographs you may someday take.
roger_michel
sorry for all the sarcasm. you just spent a load on the camera and you want it to look nice. fine. the good news is that after a few weeks of using the thing, you won't care as much. icuneko
Be prophylactic. Always wear surgical/dental gloves when using a Leica. Then, you'll have no fingerprint problem.

al_kaplan1
Bjarke, that is a beautiful M4. It makes you think of the places it's been, the people it's photographed, the pleasures it brought to both the photographer and the people who looked at the photographs. When people ask "Why Leica?" you realize that few things on the planet can see that much use and still be ready for the next asignment! Back when that M4 left Wetzlar Leitz didn't even put a "protective" sheet of plastic on the base plate! Would you rather have a camera with a completely mar free finish who's insides wear out after only a few thousand rolls?
