stephen_benskin
For some reason, there are a number of pop media analogies that keep coming to mind. There's the Kung Fu approach, Kane: "Master, why is it that you can hear such things?" Master: "Grasshopper, why is it that you cannot?" What about looking at sensitometry from the perspective of the Matix movies? When Neo and the others look at the monitors full of code, they don't see the code, they see images. Yes, I'm talking about the Zen of sensitometry. You transend the numbers, become one with the graph. The funny part is that it is true. How does that saying go? First you must learn it so that you can then forget it. Finally, maybe it's not about techies vs non-technies, but the emergence of generation X critics. For the gen-X reviewer, there are only two opinions on any subject: "cool" or "sucks." It might just be a language thing.
dean_williams
I like it, Stephen. Looks like I'd better head on down to my local photo-dojo. I'll be ready to take you on when I can "Snatch the Gossen from your hand". "grasshopper" It's its if it's its, unless it's it's, then it's it is. stephen_benskin
At least Kane had to pass a test. Any schmuck can pick-up a camera and call himself a photographer. Come to think of it, I think Minor White was doing the Gossen test back in the 70s. Be the light meter. Photograph the isness. Watch out for the dark slide...er side.
