cxc
What is accomplished by the long wash time at the end of the filmprocessing cycle? What are the risks in shortening the time?
hans_beckert
5-10 minutes max. Use Perma-Wash or a similar product.
jim_appleyard
The wash removes all the fixer from the emulsion. It also removes the hypo clearing agent, if you use one. There are many different opinions on how long a wash should be, but if it isn't long enough, fixer and HCL may remain in the emulsion and shorten the life of the image. oskar_ojala
The wash time depends very much on the flow of water - the difference in required wash times will be several minutes based on how well the film is washed.
titrisol
if you're using a tank try filling it with water, agitate for about 30 secs empty repeat 3 to 5 times then use distilled water and do 2 rinses done shouldn;t take over 10 minutes and you use 9*500 ml = 4500 ml (1.4 gallons)
discpad
You'll need a longer wash if your fixer is near the end of its life: Using a two stage fix will shorten up your wash time.

A couple days ago I posted an article entitled Why two step fixing is a Really Good Thing at this link which gives you more detail than you can digest(!)

Cheers!
Dan Schwartz
All links open in new windows
