Where is Hensel? Did they quit?

All you Hensel owners out there, beware. U.S. distributor says he

hasn't gotten a thing from the company (in Germany) for months! BH

Photo, Badger Graphics, and others are drying up on stock. Can't get

a thing from them.

 

Anyone know the story?

I just got a Hensel Porty Kit from BH. It was damaged in transit. I am waiting

for a replacement. Actually, this is a replacement order from an original order

from last month that had a defective flash head.

 

Adorama usually buys 20 or more kits at once. I called them and they told me

that once they got some in stock, they all sell out quickly.

 

From what I have read, Hensel has been a slow producer for years. Well, at

least for the US market they are slow. You probably don't hear these same

comments in the european market.

 

That is my hearsay.

I spoke with the Hensel representative at the New York City photo expo this past week. Until just two weeks ago Hensel was imported and distributed in the USA via a well-regarded German photographic firm. The agreement ended between that firm and Hensel and it was decided that a new group would handle their products in the USA. The representative for the new group indicated that the prior distributor could have been more aggressive in the marketing and distribution of the product. He outlined plans to improve the visibility of the line, which though nearly unknown in the USA, is highly regarded in continental Europe. Warehousing space will be shared with another very highly regarded German photo-gear company. The new Porty is impressive and there are some high-tech upgrades in the pipeline for the Hensel stuff. Stay tuned, and let's hope this change in management will bring improved availability.
