Lens addiction -- who has it?

<em>"Can you share some steps of your personal 12-step

program from lens addicts anonymous?" --Jay Dougherty<br>

</em><br>

A testimony of personal victory: I just donated a AF 28~105/3.5~4.5D

IF Nikkor (like new, box, warranty, lens hood, filter) to a local

school. My 12 step plan which worked flawlessly was to

procrastinate for 11 months, drop hints and upon the 12 month

donate the lens to the school. Each time I drop a hind it

increases the moral imperative to donate. This plan has allowed

me to keep my F Bayonet Nikkors down to 30 lenses for the last 10

minutes.

Look on eBay for lenses (and cameras)with misspelled names: Lieca for Leica, Lietz/Leitz, Canon/Cannon, Nikon/Nikkon, Nikkor/Nikor, etc. Always bid low, sometimes your bid will win. Frequent estate sales, and don't be afraid to buy a gadget bag full of stuff you don't want to get the one lens you do want. Just make sure you pay next to nothing for all the stuff. List everything you don't want on eBay and sell it! Sell the lenshoods, cases, caps, and filters seperately. You should end up with cash in your pocket and free lenses.

Great thread. Im not quite an addict yet (first sign is denial) but this is what Ive purchased this year.

Sigma 28-200mm f/3.5-5.6 off E-bay (new)

Minolta 50mm f/1.7 from a local camera store (used)

Minolta 28mm f/2.8 off E-bay (used)

The only other lens I would really want would be the Minolta 85mm or 100mm for portraits. But I cant justify the cost for either lens. My birthday maybe?
