richard_urmonas
Does anyone have experience pushing APX-400 to 1000-1600 ASA ?What were the results like ?How well does it compare to say 400TX, or HP5+ pushed?
jimvanson
Big grain, not the best tonality but it can be done. Go here to see an example of APX 400 @ 1600 in Rodinal 1+25 for a long, long, time. scott_walton2
I liked the APX films and they pushed nicely but IMOP HP5+ is finer grain and better tones. If you are going to push it, D76 works good as does HC110 B but why don't you try some Neopan (Fuji) 1600? You will get better tones (more shadow detail) and shot at 1000 or 1600, it has always been better.
chris_waller
Pushing in Rodinal is not recommended, at best it could manage a one stop push. Try a proper speed developer such as Microphen. HP5 and Tri-X push much better, particularly HP5. I regularly used to push HP5 to 1600 ASA.
